Our town's starts at 4:00 p.m. I would start then and quit when he starts getting tired or you've had enough♥

There should be "official trick or treat hours" in your community. The earlier end of the time range that is announced is best for younger kids.

Personally, I doubt I'd take a 1 year old trick or treating. They probably won't "get it" and may be scared by some of the bigger kids costumes. And they don't need candy so young either.

If it were me, I'd dress the kid up and let him help pass out candy at home. Maybe visit Grandma and Grandpa or the Aunts and Uncles if they are nearby.

All my kids were 9 to 10 months old when we took them trick or treating for the first time. We didn't stay out long, (maybe about an hour or so...before it got too dark out) but it was fun. Most people really seem to like seeing all the "babies" dressed up so cute.
Even if your baby can't eat the candy, it is just fun.....not to mention just being outside "playing" will be enough to send them to bed early! And there is never anything wrong with that!!!

It's always fun trick-or-treating with a toddler. Most of them love dressing up and getting candy. I'd say go for it! But, it'll probably be chilly out so I'd only go to a few houses being he's only 1 and probably doesn't want to be out in the cold for very long.

Usually the hour that it begins is when people with babies go out because sometimes it is still light out a little. Babies have earlier bedtimes and later hours are usually only bigger kids.
I live in Houston and have noticed that the kids start out little in the first hour, then get older as it progresses.

We usually go around 6:30 that gives people time to eat their dinner, and gets us home in time for candy sorting, bath, and bed. Have fun!

i am taking my kids to the mall this year. we are having scheduling difficulties and won't be able to take them later on tuesday nite, so we are gonna take them to the mall earlier in the day. or the nite before halloween. i think it will be even better for them, cuz they can see all the other costumes, and they will be warm! best of all worlds imo!!!
