My question is one from the beginning of time, is God evil Or is He good. I believe most religions say he is evil. In most religions we must submit to his will and prove that we deserve to go to heaven, and if we don't we go to hell. We must earn his love. I think good people love people unconditionally, like a father loves a son. God being perfect should be held to a much higher standard. So I ask again is God evil or is God good?

Our Holy Scriptures tells us at Psalm25:8, "Good and upright is Jehovah. That is why he instructs sinners in the way." (NWT)

You can not earn God's love. Did you earn your dad's love? Where did you get that belief that you have to earn it? You can not deserve to go to heaven. There is nothing you can do to say to God,"You owe me a place in heaven." He owes you nothing. Its His earth and His heaven. You are even His. Yes, even you. All the earth and everything in it. Is God good? Yes, and only God is good. What is evil? Anything that isn't good. What things are good? Only that which perfectly reflect God. Do you perfectly reflect God? Do you love Him with all your heart, soul, and mind all the time? Good is by His Standards like the ten commandments not your standards.

Nathan you are incorrect...here we go...

God is good, all the time. He is Holy and Righteous. Nothing bad or evil comes from Him.

As Christians, we live under grace because Jesus died on the cross for our sins. We don't get into Heaven by works. It is by grace so that no man can boast.

Yes, we do submit to God and His will. I thought it would be difficult after so many years of secular living...but I was wrong. It wasn't difficult at all.

God loved us while we were still sinners. We don't have to earn His love. He loved us first...enough to send His Son (Jesus) to die on the cross, so that we can live. (John 3:16-17).

There are no "good" people without Jesus. We are born selfish and self-centered. Think about that for a minute. When we are babies...we cry, we get fed. We cry, we get our diaper changed. We cry, we get love. We learn from a young age that the world revolves around us. Children still do until...one day...they find out...it doesn't. When we learn to stop looking at ourselves and keep our eyes on the Lord...we learn not to be selfish and self-centered.

God is our Father and He loves each of us...even when we don't love Him back.

I pray that you will find the grace of the living God and His Son Jesus!

The Bible tells us that there is no amount of goodness that we can do to get into Heaven. Everyone has sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. He says that even our best acts are like filthy rags to Him.
But don't despair! He came up with a plan to save us from this seemingly hopeless situation! Since all sins, no matter how small, must be punished, He sent His Son to Earth in human form to take the punishment for all our sins, for all time. In essence, Jesus Christ says He will trade you your sins for His righteousness. (He is the only person in history never to have committed any sin. He is the spotless lamb of God who is slain for our transgressions.) Christ died for us while we were still sinners. When we accept the sacrifice He has made for us, He clothes us in His spotless white robes of His righteousness. So when we stand before God, He is no longer looking at us as sinners, but as sinless children of God, and we now have the privelege of entering Heaven. This is not by any good thing we did, but it was a free gift from God. We only had to reach out and accept it!
Yes, God is good. Very, very good.

A deity must by definition be entirely amoral. That is, not morally good, and not morally evil.

If a deity was all evil, then there could be no good in the world. If a deity was all good, then there could be no evil in the world. The fact that the laws of physics rule out free will means that free will is not even an issue here (note: that doesn't mean we don't make choices, just that they are computable given sufficient information).

So any deity has to be morally ambivalent.

A trick question because there is no god, but I'll play along.
God is evil because if he really loved us he would take away our free will and turn us all into creatures of chronic goodness. Giving humans free will is like giving a starving man spoiled food. You can say love you the starving man so you are feeding him, but in reality you are giving him something that will make him more miserable. Free will is Trojan horse, it is not a gift it is a curse.

You are twisted. The only way we go to heaven is through Jesus Christ. We do not prove we are good or go to hell. Where do you get your thoughts. You my friend do not know God. If we go to hell it has nothing to do with God...it is a choice we make. You like me and like evryone have a choice. You can live for yourself, and keep your free will or live for God and have eternal life. Say the sinners prayer and then follow God. The devil is a king of deciet. You are a sucker to fall for his twisted games of twisting scripture. He makes right look wrong and wrong look right. You are spiritually immature and that is why you think and talk the way you do. It is time to grow up in your spirit. Get to know God. He loves you and forgives you. You are at a dangerous place in your life and your life is headed for pain and suffering.

God is good & incapable of evil. We can't earn our way into heaven. God loves us and offers us grace through the sacrifice of Christ as our redemption. Just as all good fathers discipline their children to make sure that they grow up to be healthy & functional, so God disciplines us. We chafe at that discipline just like a 2-year-old in timeout because we want to have our own way. Doesn't make God evil - in fact it proves His love for us in that He won't allow us to skate by without spiritual growth. But sometimes love has to be tough. It's hard to discipline children, but we have to because it is for their best interest. So it is with God and humanity.

Your understanding of religion is seriously flawed, I think. I know in Christianity and Judism God loves all people unconditionally. Still, in your analogy, won't a father require his son to get a job once he reaches an apropriate age, rather than just supporting his lazyness? Won't a father expect his son to take care of his wife? If the son doesn't, the father still loves the son, but he must punish him. Even a disowned son is loved, but the son has left the father with no choice.

Such it is with God. He loves us, and would like everyone to be saved, but he gives us choices out of love. He doesn't force us to love him, and he doesn't force us to spend eternaty with him if we don't love him. But there's only two choices, eternaty with God, or eternaty in Hell. Just like the earthly father gives only two choices to his son: get a job, or get out!

God's love is unconditional. God is Love. Our sins cause us pain. God has given us free will to make our own choices and therefore, He does not get involved in the consequeces of our actions. Most religions do not define God as Evil. I don't know which religion does. You are misled if you beleive God's love for us is finite and conditional......

God is whatever you think it is. It is personal to you, just like the day. I wish for you that you will find yourself in a state of mind that will have you think this to yourself; God is Good, so is the day and I am so lucky to be here and experience this.

Be thankful.

BTW, This has been a great question and sparked a lot of thoughtful answers/responses. I've enjoyed reading them.
