In to-days newspapers it says the Chief Constable of North Yorkshire has had a shower room and fittings installed in her office which may have cost as much as £28,000. I appreciate that a police officer should be 'clean' but this a bit much. In addition she has just spent £500,000 of taxpayers money to provide Volvo cars for her senior officers. The local members of the Police Authority have promised an investigation.

Just what did she get for our money? It wasn't a shower unit fixed into the corner of her office but probably needed a toilet, bidet and washbasin entailing a whole new drainage system being installed together with hot and cold water being brought in expensively from some other part of the building. My question would be - why can't she manage with a strip down wash in a bucket or have a shower before she leaves home.
In the merchant navy we were issued with a bucket which we jammed into a bucket rack to wash ourselves and our clothes, then there was sometimes a shower we could use when we wanted to. The accepted method with our shower was to throw dirty clothes on the deck and trample them clean as we washed our bodies. Its all a matter of need and want.

In that art of the Country, you just watch, all the rozzers out with the hand held speed cameras, making us pay for this, the bleeding shower they are.

By the way, and when sent a summons for speeding on a camera, ask to see the test certificate for the camera n the day, and if they cannot or will not produce it, you can claim, successfully that it is possibly faulty.

Honest, really, would a rozzer lie to you.

And the police officers at my daughter's station have to beg for a new kettle and toaster in order to make a hot drink and a snack. They aren't allowed to take in their own appliances as they have to be tested and have a safety certificate.!!
