Does anyone have any good ideas for activities to take my mind of crashing to my certain death on a long haul flight?

Personally, after the first meal service, I like to go to the back of the plane and chitchat with the crew (assuming they're not busy, of course). You learn many interesting things from them, no matter where they're based out of. They'll also appreciate the fact that you're treating them like a fellow human being who's also stuck in a metal tube for 14 hours. I've killed many hours chatting this way.

Plan B is my laptop, complete with Tivo-to-Go, DVDs, and general work stuff. I also can sleep if I wanted to (I can sleep through landings, if you can believe that).

But definitely feel free to make new friends... that way, you'll have a more enjoyable flight, and you won't be thinking about the fact that no widebody aircraft in history has ever made a successful water landing (and that those lifevests are just there for show).

Bon voyage!

Well, I can't tell you exactly what to do, but here's some advice. There are 4 danger points to look out for: 1&2: Take-off and landing. Many kids go NUTS when those loud jet engines ring in their ears. Not every kid goes crazy, but it's those two spots to look out for. 3: Non-interesting movie. In case there is a movie for teens or adults over kids, pack extra activities. And when I say extra, take whatever you can to advert his attention and keep it down. 4: CABIN FEVER!!!!!!!!!!! This WILL eventually happen, when your kid wants to get up and run around everywhere. There's a fairly simple cure. get up and go to the bathroom, even if you don't really have to. It gives him a chance to stretch his legs a little. The best thing to do is to tire him out before take off so he has a CHANCE of falling asleep. It knocks out a couple of hours or so, and you can relax a little. I hope I helped a little, and good luck with your travels!

You must get an Ipod video 5th generation and an extended battery pack. You can load movies, music videos and music to it. This is so convenient if the movies on board are not what you want to watch.

Also take a book and some magazines and lots of Xanax to help you sleep.

Sleeping and feeling drowsy will definitely take the edge off - and you won't care about taking a freefall.

Take a "RED EYE" flight. Make sure you get a window seat. Ware a baseball cap. As you walk onto the plane grab a pillow or 2 and a blanket. As soon as the cart comes down the isle buy as many drinks as they will let you have. drink them fast and fall asleep. Or take a sleeping pill before you get on the flight.

use the pillows to make yourself comfy and pull the ball cap down over your eyes. Sleep the flight away.

reading is always good, or catch up on your letter-writing. It's getting to be that time of year, so maybe take some Christmas cards with you and get a jump on knocking those out.
