This is what I did and it worked. It took a few days but be patient; this time is unnerving for both of the cats. The cat that you have had for awhile should be the one to have the run of the house. Put the newcomer in a cat carrier and set it in a room where your cat can go up to it on it's own. They can come face to face through the cage that way without you having to worry about them getting in a fight. They'll get familiar with each other. Another thing I did was I put the new cat in a room with the door closed and they were able to pretty much do the same thing under the door; they'll stretch their little arms under the door and touch each other. They'll get used to each other's scent that way, too. I did this for a few days then it was showtime. Of course, you want to be right there when you do this and not leave them alone. When it finally came time for me to do this, they weren't complete strangers to each other and they got along really good. Good luck!

You don't. I have three cats. One I've had 9 years, another I've had 7 years and the newest for a year. The oldest cat has never gotten along with either of the newer cats. Some cats will just never accept another cat around them. The newest tries to play with her, but he just gets smacked down and growled at.

since you have already introduced them to eachother, there is no way to ease that transition. however, you can make the female feel more comfortable and less invaded by making sure to keep their food separate so she doesn't feel intimadated and attack, and by giving her additional attention.
i'm guessing the boy is fixed, since most neutered males are friendly and docile, if the girl isn't, she should be. with less hormones she'll be less inclined to mark her territory.
keep them in separate rooms when you are gone, but every few days, switch whatever they sleep on. this way, they'll get used to eachother's scent.
also, cats can be trained to be nicer, just like they are trained to do other things. notice when the girl is near the boy but not being aggressive. reward her with a treat. eventually she'll catch on that being nice equals maybe getting food, and will start to do it on her own. good luck!

I think they will learn to get along, since the female is the tough one. Usually the boys are the bullies. Give them about a month, when you don't leave them alone together, but only under supervision. Feed them in the same room but separately, so that they don't fight over food, see how it goes.

I have owned pets all my life and had to go through the process several times of indroducing new pets to old ones. You have to give it time. They will learn to tolerate one another. I have never had to get rid of a pet because they didn't get along with each other. They have always figured out a way to co-exist with one another. Just give it time!!
