A man accused of driving drunk and killing a Mt. Juliet couple while fleeing from police in June pleaded not guilty in Davidson County Criminal Court Tuesday. Gustavo Reyes Garcia, 28, is charged with two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, aggravated assault by reckless conduct, evading arrest and violation of the habitual offender law. Reyes, an illegal immigrant, was arrested at least 14 times but never deported, before being accused in the deadly wreck that killed Sean and Donna Wilson.Reyes case is among several serious incidents in recent years in which illegal immigrants have been arrested. The rash of crimes by foreigners prompted Davidson County Sheriff Daron Hall earlier this year to apply for a federal program that would allow deputies to conduct immigration checks of all foreign-born people booked into the Metro jail. After this comment I want to know why he is not guilty, illegal or not, american or not if anybody has been arrested more than 14 times and is not guilty after killed two people in a vehicular homicide something serious happens in Davidson County Criminal Court.
. I’ll tell you someone else who is gutless and spineless and that’s Tennessee’s governor. He claims illegal immigration is a federal problem. I can assure you if that were his wife lying in a casket because some illegal alien with a rap sheet as long as your arm got drunk, ran from police and plowed into her car it would be a state issue. Thief, drunk, maimer, and now murderer. I guess Bush was right. Some of these illegals are doing the jobs Americans just won’t do.

Here in Arizona if they are caught crossing or coming from the border they are taken to a processing center, finger printed/picture taken then returned to the border and sent back across.Your being in Tennessee could be a little more complicated too because of logistics. The states MUST start taking responsibility for the actions of all people within its state boundaries, they can not be allowed to turn a blind eye to the crimes of all people. The government must give each officer in every state the lawful right to ask for a persons prof of citizenship. In this troubled time we need a centralized center for clearing all people.A national ID card is a must.
Its is very sad for anything like this to happen but the laws must be changed. We are our brothers keeper.
And MAKE our court system responsible for the laxity of its equality and interest in everything about all offenders.

They don't deport them for the same reason they don't put repeat child molesters behind bars for good. It's the money.
Like in the Jessica Lunsfords case in Florida. John Cooey had like 23 arrest and some for child molestation. Yet, he was out on the street free as you and me.
He went into that 9 year old girls house stole her, kept her alive for 2 days then buried her Alive!
In my opinion the government doesn't care about women or children because children can't vote and they think women are too moral on the most behalf and have to be destroyed. Because they could upset the immoral apple cart!
They only care that Big Business gets their cheap labor and protecting their vested interest!
It's all about MONEY and nothing more!
LEGAL OR LEAVE!

A sheriff is normally an elected position and not under the whims of the governor. So he can turn the creep over to the federal authorities without the governors permission. Ask him why he did not.

Blaim it on liberal politicians and lawyers.
Lawyers make the laws so they can get rich defending "clients" and since most politicians are lawyers, they work together.
They put all these loop holes in the law so that when they (or their friends) get caught, they can get around the law.
Look at the lawyer who was conviceted of treason but was given only 23 months in jail buy a judge (who was a lawyer). Bet she doesn't serve more than 2 or 3.

"Some of these illegals are doing the jobs Americans just won’t do." ??? Youre right, all this is terrible and this guy shouldve been deported a long time ago and immigration laws and punishments implemented. BUT you cannot post articles such as yours implying that all crimes and murders are committed only by illegal immigrants. Doing so only makes you more ignorant than some of your postings already imply. Although I will tell you that I do agree with some of the things you post, including the majority of this one, I would have omitted that last paragraph if I were you. Is it ok for Americans to commit such crimes and have rap sheets that circle my neighborhood all because they had the good fortune of having been born here?! Is it ok with you that OUR tax dollars pay for their housing and food??!! Just a lil something for you to ponder!

I agree. We need widespread, strict enforcement of our immigration laws and other laws.
kapute2: please realize the stupidity of what you wrote. Racism has nothing to do with crime, and "deport criminals because their illegal" makes absolutely no sense.
serestmar: constitution only applies to residents and citizens. Also, the declaration of independence said that. Get your facts straight.

Well, in many cases cops don't (or can't) check legal residency.
2nd, even if he is an illegal, he is supposed to be tried just like any other criminal for his crimes.

They're working on it, give em a couple months...some jails are already partnering up with the ICE. It's not quite same-day service yet, but they'll get there...

If we deported them, with our system of border patrol, they would be back in the US within the week. They would probably be in another area witha different name. They would be in touch with their friends by TRAC PHONE and getting support and got hireed by friends of the people who hired them in the first place.
As far as courts they have to be proven guilty and no one will convict them for fear of revenge on a family member.
