Well it probably depends on what you intend doing on Halloween.
As a young child in the 1950's we used to do things - supposedly traditional - that are not done any more.
A friend's birthday fell on Halloween so every year from about the age of 6 to 11 a dozen little girls and a dozen little boys would gather at his house for a party.
There were 2 big bran tubs full of sawdust and straw, we all had to thrust our arms in up to our armpits to retrieve a party hat, and a little present.
So we were all covered in sawdust and bits of straw.
There were apples tied on strings, dangling from a beam and with arms behind backs holding our hands clenched together we had to try and get a bite out of a swinging apple. A boy and a girl could approach the apple from opposite sides and assist each other as they took a bite at the same time . [I can't believe it now, but we all refused to participate with assistance of that proximity from a member of the opposite sex]
But if a bite was successful there was apple juice over ones face and upper body.
For those who managed to get a bite without cheating too much [2 boys keeping the apple still while each getting a bite at the same time - I can't believe that now - I'd much rather do it with the opposite sex] - for those who managed a very sticky toffee apple - so sugary toffee like substances were everywhere.
Finally there were bowls of water with apples floating in them, and this was generally regarded as the highlight. Kneeling down (again with hands clasped together behind one's back. One had to attempt to take a bite out of a bobbing apple. Water everywhere, including all over the competitors.
After the traditional Halloween games, we had a couple of traditional kid's party games that were in vogue in the 1950's - Postmen's Knock, and Pass The Parcel - again I can't believe now, but we (the boys) all used to shun contact with the girls - and it often used to result in running around bumping in to each other and tumbling about (probably shrieking as we went).
Can I go back and be 7 again, I might enjoy it more!
His mother had carved Pumpkins and put candles in them, we inquisitive young minds had to examine them, and play with them, molten candle wax getting everywhere.
So if you intend doing anything that might leave you messy, I advise you to dress in something you do not treasure, or that will wash very easily, or can be thrown away afterwards, or else go naked!

If your not sure if you want to go all the way, do something thats not to extreem, wear a pair of wings, or glue on a pair of ears or devil horns but wear a normal out fit. With something like devil horns or elf ears, the benifit is people do a doubble take which is fun.
