Slick question, You want to know what existed Before God said let there be light, First your question is a 2 fold question, I can answer it by saying God, which is true, But now lets read the bible. Gen.1:1 In the Beginning God created the heaven & the earth. 2: And the earth was without form & void; & darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3: And God said let there be light & there was light. Now therefore God was alive & well since he has no beginning nor ending. & this earth was here before God even spoke light into existance. Good question, & a slick one, sometimes people gets too anxiuos to answer without thinking,. Because some will say God was, & stop there.

Its right there in the bible, Genesis, its the first chapter: verse 1-3

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

2 Now the earth was [a] formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

3 And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.

in the 2nd verse it says "formless and EMPTY", therefore nothing existed.

The universe was fine, stars planets, everything before that. the 'let their be light' just had god clear up some of the thick atmosphere that surrounded the watery earth. Genesis was written as to what a human would see had he been their, so it went form 'darkness' to 'light' for the atmosphere, began to weaken and allow the light of the sun, to get in enough to 'brighten it up'

No one could turn the lights on to see what was there. God was there for sure. and language was also there, otherwise he couldn't of said the words.
