Depends on your budget. For a family, a roast if always good, and have some kind of potatoe, and some in season steamed vegetables spiced with lemon, butter and seasonings. I prefer a cheaper cut of roast and put it in the crock pot to cook slow all day.

I like making "seasonal" foods too, like the person above said.
Stews,
Soups and chowders,
Roasts with mashed potatoes and steamed veggies,
a hearty pasta dish, such as lasagna or baked zitis..
always add a salad (even if it's just lettuce and tomatos).

How about grilled chicken a salad and either a sweet potato or french bread? we usually grill our food on the weekend it's healthier and it's alot less mess to clean up then if we were to cook inside

Traditionaly In New England it's home baked beans and hot dogs. Cabbage salad and brown bread go with it.

barbecued steak-after it has been marinated for a few hours & pounded-frozen corn boiled in a pouch & potatoe pancakes-served with garlic bread & rice pudding 4 dessert.
