If members of congress and the senate would vote based on what they believe is best for the people and not be influenced by their party then I believe things would be better. People will always form groups with those that think the same way on issues but maybe these would be short term alliances and we wouldn't have the constant fighting and finger pointing.

We do get to evaluate the jokers in the House every two years, the President every four and the Senate every six.
You can't just strip the party affiliations, they'd reorganize under different names because people naturally break themselves up into groups.
By the way, how much exactly do you want the government to do? Under our Constitutional system all they're really supposed to do is maintain the common defense, take care of treaties, and ensure that the states don't discriminate against each other or against their citizens. After that I'm all for stasis and a hamstrung government.
Of course some people like a nice efficient government, the Germans wanted one back in the 1930s, and they got one, good and hard.

Party affiliations do not let the real truth be known. It only lets us hear what the other side can dig up to hurt and not to help. If congress was really interesed in making America strong, they would forget about fighting with each other and focus on what is good for America.

I like the idea. What I want to know is how could we do it? People always say vote vote if you want to change our government but how come once it is changed you relize that they are just as bad as their predasesors. We as a people need to have a way we can insure that our government officials are doing their job not just putting money in their pockets. I say we force all politicians to do debates while straped to a lie detector. Take a national senses and get the top 100 questions of the nation. Then have them give their answer. If they try and dodge it then we kick them out of office. I know we couldn't have some questions because of national security but most of the questions they could answer without a threat to our nation. but all of this is just wish full thinking. They will never let us know the truth.

People are always going to group up together based on their policy beliefs. Stripping party affiliations would change nothing.

Can you imagine those clown running around waiting for someone to tell them what to do.
Now they have their party to help them make decisions. Without that help the clowns would be helpless. Also, without their parties, each member would be responsible for what he/she does. Can you imagine that, a responsible Congress-person?

People will always have their own opinions, and then want to be associated with those of the same opinions, so even if you got rid of party affliations, they'd just call themselves something else.
