The words themselves probably aren't anything to worry about since movie makers usually just string together a bunch of latin to create the chants. I don't think it is wrong necessarily but it does open you to spiritual attacks from demons. The movies generally show that evil is powerful (which is true), that God/Angels are powerless (which is false), and that man can fight off the powers of evil alone (also false). Notice that in many of these shows, the religious (especially Catholic priests) are portrayed as being inept (if not downright corrupt) and unable to cope with the actual evil attacking them. Over all, I'd say it's best to avoid occult horror and horror in general but I don't classify it as being wrong. Part of our nature is the joy of being frightened by monsters.

In the Hebrew scriptures , it was a capital offense to do anything with spiritsm or the occult. Deuteronomy 18; 10.
Same in the Christian Greek scriptures, remember Jesus said "get behind me Satan." Revalation 21 ; 8 gives a list of those headed to destruction and one of those is " those practicing spirtism"
If we're watching it, then that's like inviting them in our homes. Now granted , it isn't easy to watch a movie nowadays that has nothing bad in it at all, such as violence or bad language, but if it reeks of ghosts, magic, witchcraft, or demonism, then it would be a good idea to stay as far away from it as possible.

Not Only Occult, watching any movie may cause hurt to your being as different thoughts enter your mind. Bad thoughts may influence you to think in a different way block your faculties from listening to your Heart !

Junk in- junk out is our family's principle on what to watch.
Everything we put in our eyes and to our brains influences us whether we think it does or not.
Those kinds of things are like computer files...even though you erase them they still leave an image on your hard drive! Just because you don't think about the movie or act upon what you saw, or believe it is real doesn't mean that the stuff can't come up to influence you later, whether you realize it or not.
Many people don't see into the spiritual realm, there really is a spiritual battle going on for our souls. We choose to boycott the enemy.

Are you specifically asking about the occult? Or horror movies in general? Because I do watch horror films, but I don't watch films about satanism or dark ritualistic magics. Sometimes some crazy writer might get ahold of a "real" text to make their film "authentic" so you just never know what you might be accidentally inviting into your home...

"Occult" just means "hidden" and is a pretty slippery word to define. Being an occultist in a rather traditional sense, I've seen perhaps three or four movies in my life that would actually apply to what I practice...

If they disturb your spirituality, then don't watch them. But I don't think they can possess you or anything, and I certainly don't think that they will send you to hell. Some people are sensitive to the occult and it's not for everyone.

To know your enemy is to put up a better defence. If you don`t know what to stay away from then you are walking in the dark already. That is what happens to a lot of young people. What they don`t know does hurt them.AS FAR AS THE MOIVES, thats what they are.If evil is that bad then GOD has got to be off the hook.

There are no 'evil' words. Words are a tool to help shape and convey thought. Calling a word evil is the same as calling a hammer evil. It is not the object, but the intent of the person wielding it that should be our concern.
If you like them watch them.
If you don't like them, don't watch them.
Simple as that.
