They were called "78s" and spun at 78 rpm. They were made of shellac, and if you dropped one, it broke. The sound quality was not particularly good, which is why you have a lot of big bands with clarinet solos from that era -- the clarinet came out sounding okay.

the penny was made 1/2 of tin because of the war that happening and everybody had to cut down on everything that wasn't necessary and grew their own vegetable gardens which were called victory gardens. if thats what you mean by "interesting". i can't beleive you didn't know that there was a war in those days. it was called WORLD WAR 2. duh
