Straightning your hair does damage your hair. All straightners will cause some damage. Make sure you spray your hair with a protective heat spray before you straighten. That should help protect it. Also, go to Sally's. They have tons of irons at great prices.

You can get a no lie-relaxer for fine to medium hair...if your hair is naturally curly..there is a johnson and johnson relaxer for fine to medium hair...Yes the lady on the box is african american but its better than paying 5,000 dollars for some japanese lady to straighten it for you......for caucasian people all you have to do is apply it for 20 minutes into small sections and rinse...it will leave your hair completely straight for about 3 months. Make sure to do a strip test before you apply it to your hair. I know because my mom is white...I'm half black...so my hair has same texture as curly hair...it works great and doesn't damage it.

But Queen Elizabeth... I assumed you liked the half balding, kinky curley mullett look?

Anyway... Straightening Irons are best when they incorporate steam and ceramic plates and heat... If you get a cheap one from like K-mart, that only has the ceramic plates and heat, your hair will burn and fizz more and more, the more you use it. It is worth it to go for an expensive one. Like the one they frequently feature on QVC by that hairdresser dude... What her name?

Or... you can have the Japanese straightening. Which can cost anywhere from $200 to $500 dollars.

I don't know why you would want to, but if it's because your hair is frizzy, I watched a high-class beautician do the following for a girl who had long frizzy hair: after washing, she applied some gel and combed it in, then she took strands of hair and twisted them, until the whole head was done. The result was stunning.
In the sixties, they used to straighten hair by drying it on large rollers.

if you straighten it loads and loads or leave it on your hair too long it can burn it, but your hair will soon grow out again. Its not permanent damage. You can even use creams to protect your hair, and some straighteners are safer for hair. You should get nicky clark professional straighteners so you can change the temperature.

Surya i suggets you go to a salon and get strightning done once if you like it and are planning to do it regularly please get a bonding done. It will be expensive but at least that daily routine wont be there. By bonding your hair is permantly strightened. Only the new growth will be your curls or frizz will return But when you get bonding done you have to take special care of your hair and treat it really well or you start getting bad hair fall.

Using heat and chemicals is always bad for your hair. It can dry it out and cause split ends. If you do straighten it, make sure to use a product for heat.

"straightening hair weakens it and gives you split ends. It isn't good for your hair", but I straighten my hair evey day and I love it. Sure, it may give you a split end here and there, but hay, just keep up the trims at the barber and you'll be fine!!

Chemical straighteners are extremely harsh on hair. and if you are wanting to use a flat iron, you should use some sort of heat protection, so that it doesnt fry your hair.

before you chemically straighen this try this out to see if it will work

when my mother was a teenager in the sixties she would straigthen her hair by setting empty soda cans into her hair or use jumbo size rollers at least 3" Diameter, she found that this worked as long as she used a strong setting lotion

I staightened my hair yesterday, it looks great! Just put a little hairspray in your hair so it won't frizz up. If you are worried, try straigting your hair, and if you don't like it, just take a shower and it will go back to normal. :)
