I bought a new house in August. I live out of state from my sister and she's a real estate agent. She offered (and brought it up) that she could act as if she was referring me to an agent (even though I already had one) then get me back a portion of the closing costs. Well, that all worked, and my realtor actually gave her a cut of the money knowing that it would actually come back to us. Well, my sister hasn't returned any of my calls for a month and is obviously avoiding me and now I know that the check was cashed over a month ago. So I guess she decided to keep the money for herself. I would never expect her to do anything like that. What do you think I should do?

I'm not sure how much was given to her but the check was 1700. her office should have kept a small portion. I am guessing 1000 dollars.

I should mention that my sister is very wealthy. If I knew she needed the money I wouldn't be as upset but I'm SURE she doesn't. I, on the other hand, could have really really used it.

there was actually nothing dishonest about it. Our realtor agreed to give some of her commision back to us.

Never do business with family members because if something goes wrong then the whole family will break.

Go to her place and just tell her that you did not expect this from her and tell her to keep the money if she thought that money was more important to her than her own sister.

If you do that she will feel guilty.

And this is exactly why you NEVER do business with family. Wake up! Your sister kept the money for herself.

maybe she is super busy, and maybe she needed the money more than she wanted anyone to know
