As a kid we had fried chicken at least 3 to 4 nights out of the week, none of us are overwight, fat, bad cholestoral or anything.

Now that I am watching my cholestroal I've stopped eating at Popeyes (Wich is pretty much the greatest chicken on earth) and now I'm considering maby 2 times a month eating there that shouldn't be bad for me. Especially since I grew up eating it.

Too many calories, too little exercise, insufficient amounts of fruits veggies and other nutrient dense foods are bad from you. Anything fried is NOT healthy - period regardless of how much you ate it as a kid.

That having been said, everything in moderation ...

If you exercise regularly, get in your minimum of 3 fruits and 4 veggies a day and, limit your intake of other junk food and sodas, eating Popeyes a few times a month (in sane portions.. like a small order) won't make it any less unhealthy for you, but it should not hurt you (and it will keep you from eventually binging)

I posted a link below to the USRDA guidelines regarding serving sizes , portions and food exchanges - Lost of great info on how to fit it into your diet a few days a week without trashing your cholesterol levels ...

This is all, unless, of course, your doctor has told you NOT to eat it

This goes back to the old saying of "everything in moderation." If you are in good health, do not have a problem with high blood pressure or bad cholesterol, and eat a generally healthy diet and exercise; a reasonable amount of fried chicken is not a bad thing. It is healthier overall to allow yourself to indulge in a "treat" item of food once in awhile so you won't feel deprived. I eat sensibly during the week, and then indulge in a bit of "fun" food on one weekend day, fried chicken, baked potato... whatever. I refuse to feel guilty about enjoying what I eat. I am a bit overweight, but am healthy, and that is what is most important. Life is too short to "diet" and avoid all foods that we enjoy. Have a great day!

I make a nice version of fried chicken that isn't too fatty. Just brown the chicken in oil (maybe 1/4 cup) in batches, then remove them to a Pyrex dish (they are non-stick, less oil) and bake with no additional oil. Turn it a couple of times. When it's done, remove it right away so it does not sit in any oil in the pan. Not oil-free but much better than KFC or Popeyes.

(I didn't think you needed to know how to bread the chicken but if you do, just dip it in egg & milk, then into seasoned flour and shake off. I tried removing the skin but it was too dry and tasteless)

First, the Popeye's thing. We just got a Popeye's in our town. I couldn't wait to try it after hearing some people say the chicken and bisquits were great. I tried them. They sucked.

Now, for the is it bad for you question. If you live a life of moderation with all things in moderation including moderation, then there is very little that is truly bad for you.

Eat a variety of foods prepared in a variety of ways, including your fruits and vegetables, and you will be fine. Don't forget your daily exercise. Live long and prosper.

Perhaps the reason you didn't get fat or get bad cholesterol is because of your metabolism, which can get worse as you get older. The longer lasting effect that it may have had on you, however, could've been a much too high intake of protein, which happens to a lot of people in the U.S. The amount of protein that most Americans ingest daily is unhealthy. Because so much is present in one's system at one time, it causes them to use the bathroom more often than they usually would, which can rid them of the protein that is necessary. Therefore, in order to receive that amount of protein, it is drained from the bones, sometimes causing osteoporosis.

However, usually, everything is fine in moderation.

I think a lot of it has to do with the rest of our lifestyle. Years ago we were, as a country, much more physically active than we are now. I don't know if they've changed the fat they fry the chicken in or not. Maybe that's part of it. Moderation would be the key now, though, I think.

Children do not get overwieght so easily; they have a faster metabolism and do more exersise; so they can expel toxins for faster; they have a better liver because they are younger, do not smoke.

They have a less of a biuld up of clog in thier arteries too.
