Puppies can't legally be shipped until 10 weeks old, and it is safer at 11-12 weeks.
the cost, including USDA certificate and kennel runs about $250

Continental Airlines is by FAR the safest, and well worth any extra drive to a larger city..They have a pet sitter that actually stays with the pets at all times... they are never left on the tarmack

Too young to ship. The airlines won't do it. As I recall the age limit is 10 weeks - might be 12. Check with them - on every airlines website their is information about shipping animals.

8 weeks is just barely weaned.

There also weather restrictions - so hot, no shipping animals; so cold etc.

When he is older, call the airline and get a quote. Prices vary depending upon the size of the dog and whether he is flying as baggage or as cargo.

For example: Large dog - biggest kennel made LA -Chicago as baggage (travelling with you) is $85; as cargo (flying alone) is $850

by the way 'k" above is ignorant about the breeders of the top quality dogs when she says "Any breeder willing to ship a dog isn't a breeder you want to buy a puppy "

The best breeders - I'm talking those who breed, raise and show their dogs through to Westminster and who are AKC judges - are quite hapy to ship a puppy if it going to be the best andmos perfect home for the dog. They want the best possible placement for the dogs and if that happens to be a 1000 miles away, so be it.

The answer to your question,Continental and Delta airlines require that a pup be at least 8 wks. old and have a health certificate from a vet .Many responsible breeders ship pets at this age providing the pet has been weaned from the Mom at least two weeks and has been on its' own for this length of time. Some smaller breeds like t-cup Yorkies,T-cup Chihuahuas,or Poms require a little longer. The cost of the shipping on Continental airlines is around $120.00 for a pup up to 10 LBS.,and if insuring, the cost for that is around .50 cents on a dollar for the value listed for the pup.Delta airlines cost are higher and run around $170.00,depending on weight, and if a pup is at least 16 wks. old a rabies vaccination is required.

Two months is very young to ship a puppy!

But if you have to, call the airlines and find out which ones have special services for shipping dogs. I know Continential offers this kind of service.

Don't trust someone to just crate the puppy and stick it in cargo! This can be totally unsafe, as well as traumatizing to the puppy.

puppies this young shouldn't be shipped. It will possibly traumatize the dog...also, it's likely very expensive, at least 200-500 dollars. Any breeder willing to ship a dog isn't a breeder you want to buy a puppy from.
