I have asked two pharmacists and my doctor this question and they only tell me that there are no studies on this so they don't know one way or the other. I was wondering if anyone has combined these supplements with an SSRI.

Hi, first of all congrats on being on exactly the correct path. Natural amino acids and precursors are the permanet way to treat depression. I should know having come back from suicidal depression to having fantastic feelings throughout the day in about 7 months of neurotransmitter therapy.

Anyway, onto the question. I'm really not sure if you can mix with ssri. GABA is poorly absorbed in the brain though, you will find L-glutamine 5g twice a day with a B-Complex much more effective in elevating GABA levels in the brain. As for it being an 'aggresive supplement' I would disagree, I am takng 15g a day and have done so for a while now. It's supurb for treating the correct type of depression.

I would have to say it's very unlikely that either l-tyrosine or GABA would have a direct effect on SSRI's activity as they act on two different systems, but I cannot guarentee this for you.

But I do have a question for you: Why ar you taking SSRI's instead of Serotonin's natural precursor 5-HTP which will naturally elevate the levels of serotonin in the brain?

You can take 5-htp with GABA and l-tyrosine safetly!

NOTE: Avoid mixing 5-htp with ssri's as this can be potentially fatal!!! Also I am not a doctor, so don;t take my advice without consulting one first!

Never heard of anyone having to take that much Prozac. I sincerely was told I was taking the highest dosage of 3 20mg. Call the pharmacy you use and ask them. I hope you see a psychiatrist and not a general physician. I do not understand why they have you taking 2 antidepressants. Best wishes.

This is going to be a crappy answer.

Doctors and pharmacists aren't trained in this jive.

GABA is an aggressive supplement, and I really wouldn't mess with it. GABA is extremely important to fxn and I wouldn't take it OTC.

L-Tyrosine is just a bioavailable form of an amino acid. If you take the recommended dose you should be Ok.

I tried GABA along with my Prozac and it caused me to have an extreme panic attack. I would say either take one or the other but not both!
