..I'm always under this state of mind where I feel like I'm completely useless, and in truth I think I'm becoming useless. I walked out of a stupid job and now I get to live on £15 a week for food.. thats about $23.. so I don't have enough to eat. I've had several interviews and not a single phone call.. and I wonder if it's just how I present myself and my mood, which is always really low.. plus my energy levels are non-existant.. I know medication isn't a cure-all but it's better than going back to illegal drugs.. so what's been the best mental health medication in your opinion.. thanks in advance..

Hi, I'm Cinderella, and I'm a Lexapro baby too. About a year ago, I was having some issues with my life and I went to the doctor about my feelings of anxiety. I was really hoping to get a few weeks out of work legally. He put me on Lexapr and it DID make a big difference for me as well. I no longer have health insurance and have stopped taking it. Prior to doing so, I too lost my job. When I read your post, I saw myself. Although I have been denied unemployment benefits, I just turned down a job that starts at $16 an hour.
The meds could make a serious difference for you. Don't however go into your doctor's office and ask for Lexapro. There are a lot of different meds out there and your doc will prescribe one that is good for you.
I gained some weight on the Lexapro, and that has me even more depressed.
Good luck and feel better

For years, I refused to take medication, using psychotherapy instead. It helped, but never got me over the top. I have been on meds now for about 10 years. They make all the difference.

Every case is different. Some people don't need the meds. See a psychiatrist or other mental health pro.

By the way, you shoud be able to find affordable mental health care w/o insurance if you are low income, I would think.

Don't delay, and Good Luck to you. You are worth it. We all are.

I'm giving you professional advice so please pay attention. Medication is all fine and well but it's only half the solution. The other side of the story is therapy. The very best thing you can do for yourself and your future is to put yourself in the hands of a therapist who can work with you and either prescribe or arrange for prescriptions for an antidepressant. And be patient, results take time -- both therapy (may take several months) and antidepressant therapy (up to several weeks).

Medication ? Then it wouldn't be you. Know what I mean ? Exercise, eat right ( breakfast please) and get enough rest. You feel better, you look better( better color, less lines, etc), you carry yourself better and then people ( jobs ) will react better. This will make you feel better about yourself and the problem will be solved . Yes, your mood will affect job interviews, and everything else in life. Kinda like '' you don't want to hire me, do you " instead of " hire me, I will do wonders for you company " Get It ?

The best mental health medication, is one that matches your condition, and works for you.

If you have concerns about your feelings/moods, go and see your GP. They deal with people with mental health problems daily and are experienced in diagnosis and treatment.

No one in this forum is a psychiatrist - only a psychiatrist can make an appropriate diagnosis and prescribe the proper medication. Please consult one and continue to stay away from illegal drugs and alcohol.

Wow, your doing it tuff. I really think you should talk to someone, councillor or something, nothing works better. I went on meds for depression, they'll just numb you a little, doesn't help. Once I went off them I felt like crap and went all dizzy and nauseous (non-stop) for one whole week. They will make you mental in the long run.
