I've heard that it does this, and I've definatley noticed there's now alot more curls in my hair, but i didn't know if this really happened to other people or if i finally let my hair grow long enough to notice the curls.

My hair grew back curly as well! I had straight hair from birth so it's still really weird to me.

I've been told that the reason for this is that when you go completely bald, your hair follicles become "flat" (I'm not a native English speaker so I don't know how else to put it). Apparently curly hair grows out of flat follicles...

The reason that not everyone gets curls back, is because not everyone looses all their hair during chemo, so their follicles don't become "flat" (I did.... was completely bald, even my eyebrows and lashes had gone).

I have no idea though whether this is true or not.

Certain chemo drugs affect all cells of the body, the chemo can alter the hair follicles causing the hair to fall out & when the hair grows back it may come back curly. Basically once all of the chemo drugs are out of your system the folicles will return to the origional shape and you hair will be strait again.
Before I started chemo I had strait long blond hair. Lost it all in a short period of time & when it grew back it was somewhat curly, had to grow it out & cut the curls, now it is straight again. About one year to get all of the curls out. But I'm a dirty blonde now. Hope that this helps.
Good Luck

Why does the hair of chemo patients come back curly?

It doesn't always come back curly, but it does often come back a little different than what it used to be. sometimes it changes texture, sometimes there are subtle changes in color. Nobody really knows why, other than chemo has a lot of weird stuff in it that can effect all parts of the body, including hair. Hair changes over time anyway, but the changes always seem more drastic when one has lost it and then regained it.

My sister had curly hair all her life and it came back curly after chemo. My sister in law always had straight brown hair - it came back straight, but black - she also never got another fever blister. Wonder if the chemo changes or damages the cells causing the change.

Bless you.

I just read My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult with this character with leukemia. I bawled.

I think that even though most appear curly, but it should be grown till a length where gravity can acts on it to pull it. But i think color can differ. Ask your oncologist.

I think these are lyrics but i hope it makes the cancer patients out there be more cheerful.
i'm not afraid to fall
it means i climbed up high
to fall is not to fail
you fail when you don't try

even though i don't know the world, i love the world just as much

The hair is not just a part of your body and it is a symbol of beauty, status and health. It is important for you to take proper care of your health in order to prevent early hair loss. Learn here https://bitly.im/aOlLw It is not a very serious problem and with a little bit of caution you will be able to prevent further hair loss. There are certain uncontrollable factors like pregnancy conditions or certain illness or genetic factors that will result in hair loss. But, this does not mean that you cannot do something about your hair loss.

my daughter had slightly wavey hair, after chemo it grew back really curly, i wonder if it will drop out the longer it gets but it hasnt yet. The longer it gets the tighter the it curls up, she love it and its something for her to be excited about after chemo.

Firstly I hope you're feeling OK and that the Cancer has gone now.

Was your hair curly when you were a small child? if it was maybe it's just growing back like new.

I had curly hair when I was very small, but my sister cut it off, it always grew straight from then on.

My youngest son also had very curly hair until his first cut, now it's as straight as they come.

Good luck for your future.
