What about a day experience voucher, maybe he can go with you, like rally driving, sky diving, f1 racing, even bungee jumping. Also I've heard that you should buy someone gold for their 18th. Or if there is nothing you need get him to pay for a group of you and your mates to have a great day and night out.

It really depends on what your son is into. If he likes sports, you could get him like something autograph or get him tickets to his favorite sporting event. If he is into cars, and you can afford to do it, buy him a new car. It's doesn't have to be a bmw or anything like that, but if he has a older model honda or eclipse, just for example, upgrade the model or year of the car. If he already has the car he wants, give him a set of new rims, or get it repainted, new cd player, speakers, something of that nature. That's only if he is into stuff like that. The best gift for a teenager is basically just money. You don't have to worry about him not liking your gift or trying to return it, all teens like money.

A cell phone? He can learn responsibility by working for his own minutes. Either by working around the house or getting a PT job. I think it is an excellent idea for an 18 year old that does not have one yet!

Get him a gag gift- like a blow up doll, or something funny like that- go to spencers, they have great gag gifts.
Then after hes had a laugh, give him his real present- like a nice watch, an ipod, or gaming system
