No, you are not evil. I am Christian and believe that the Bible is true. You do not actually have to be a bad person to miss heaven...The Bible says that Jesus is the way and the truth and the life, and no one will enter to the Father's house except through Jesus. If you seek salvation, you need to go to Jesus for that.
Heaven is like a R.S.V.P. eternal celebration party. Everyone is invited, you just need to let our Lord to know that you are coming. It does not matter who you know, who you are, how much you wish peace in World...if your name is not on that book, you will not get in. And do not blame anyone else but yourself if you do not get in.
All your listed things are desirable qualities, the next step is to decide do you want to be with God in eternity of not? You get to choose.
We Christians do not get there because we are good, we get much better deal than we deserve. We get saved only because we want to be saved and that happens only by the mercy and grace of God.
I believe that we are here to learn to love one another. My favorite place in the Bible is 1 Cor 13

This is how I judge MYSELF. MYSELF. Judge your OWN self by this...
Galatians 5:19-25
Now the works of the flesh are obvious: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, anger, quarrels, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these. I am warning you, as I warned you before: those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also be guided by the Spirit.

Judaism seems to be more comfortible with exploring the questions without giving pat answers. I find this very difficult to communicate especialy with Christians and ex-Christian Atheists. The major point of the book of Joab is specificaly to say Yes - it is troubling - we don't have an easy pat answer. After everyone gives their ideas, God comes out and says (rhetoricaly) "Where you there when I built the world?" In relation to "God" -- the universal, eternal, creative conciousness -- we are fundamentaly limited in information and understanding == Of course, that does not stop us trying. So putting the above, together with Isaiah's shocking assertion -- "I create ... light and darkness ... and evil - I am God" and with Ecclesiastes -- "to everything turn turn turn there is a season turn turn turn a time for every purpose under heaven" We get this story the sages told in the Gemarah -- "One day the sages prayed for God to remove the evil impulse The next morning the roosters failed to lay eggs." ie: "evil" in nature is realy largely an error of human perception In the world at large -- earthquakes, tzunamis ... supernovas ... exploding suns These are all the healthy workings of the universe in the manner God designed it. An interesting thing about Jewish mystics is that they say that "evil" is God's atribute of justice --- ie: when God judges purely (unmercifully) -- the result will be perceived as evil by us (death, destruction...) Thus -- in the story of Noah -- humanity bolloxed up the world so badly that it was going to implode upon itself. Many Jewish sages say that the flood was the "mercy" -- that God stopped the total destruction and caused a "controlled Abend" (to borrow from my professional lingo) and the same can be said as we bollox up the world today -- the death caused through depletion of the ozone layer, the thawing of the ice caps... the new and more massive hurricanes ... etc. -- these are all natural responses of a healthy universe. But they do in fact act as judgements against us through the basic rules of cause and effect. == The only -actual- "evil" is the immoral actions of human beings. But again -- remember the story of the roosters! So - what we call "the evil inclination" is realy the driving impulses of our material (animalistic) nature. And these are also necessary. (if you're a Star Trek fan, you should call to mind the story where Kirk is split into "evil Kirk" and "good Kirk" -- and it turns out that "good Kirk" is a useless dishrag) So, realy -- the only time we have "evil" is when we surrender our higher will-power to the animal instincts. As the imprecation of Noah to his sons goes (if you translate the sons' names into what they realy mean) "wisdom shall dwell in the tents of beauty and the emotional impulses shall be their slave"

We don't agree on your whole list but you sound like a pretty nice guy compared to say someone like me.. problem is I am not the measuring stick God is... Compared to the perfect we both fall short, WAY short.. We have both lied, we have both been angry. We have both lusted and coveted. We are both guilty before a Holy God... Left to our own devices we deserve to go to hell. Jesus paid the penalty for our sin and asks us to do nothing more than believe Him as He offers us this gift and take life from Him instead of the death our evil deeds have earned for us... Jim

You are like me. As human beings, we are born to evil. As it is written:
"Not even one person is righteous. No one understands. No one searches for God. All have turned away. Together they have become worthless. No one shows kindness, not even one person! Their throats are open graves. With their tongues they practice deception. The venom of poisonous snakes is under their lips. Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood. Ruin and misery mark their ways. They have not learned the path to peace. There is no fear of God before their eyes." (Romans 3:10-18)
I do not place myself as better or worse than you. You may feel as though you have it all figured out, but I've gotta tell you, you cannot honestly believe, for example, that Evolution and Creation are both true. They are mutually exclusive concepts.
You say that we are all treading towards the truth, but that is naivete in the extreme. All roads do not lead to Truth. Granted, there may be some truth in other roads, but they don't take you to the Truth. All paths that do not lead to the biblical Jesus (Not the fluffy, "everyone is okay" Jesus, but the One who is both Savior and Judge.) lead you away from the One who says He IS the Truth. (John 14:6)
Just as Paul warned Timothy about false teachers who worm their way into lives of the weak: "These women are always studying but are never able to arrive at a full knowledge of the truth." (II Timothy 3:7) People search for the "truth," but never actually come to the knowledge of the Truth, because it isn't wrapped the way they want it.
Do I love people on Y!A? Yes, enough to actually tell the truth. Sometimes it's better to tell the truth, than to allow people to rush headlong into destruction.
Would you be pleased if a doctor knew you had cancer, but didn't tell you because he was afraid to hurt your feelings? Of course not! You'd sue him for malpractice. So too, the Christian, who stands up for what is True, and doesn't allow people to walk into hell with their eyes closed.

Yup. Unless you have repented of your sins, asked God's forgiveness, and have dedicated your life to Christ...
I respect your noble beliefs. Very commendable.
But evil is something different. Noble deeds do not negate ignoble ones. If I poke a hole in a very expensive painting (like that guy did to his Picasso on the news the other day), putting the most expensive frame in the world on it does not repair it to the perfection it had before. It just draws the eyes away from the hole, onto the insignificant outer surface of the painting.
It would take a miracle to restore that painting to it's old perfection. ...and as such, our very souls are like that Picasso painting. It was perfect at one time... priceless in every way. But, we have gone and poked holes in it with sin. Every time we break God's laws, it is sin. And it takes a miracle to restore our souls to perfection.
That miracle was when Jesus Christ sacrificed His life upon the Cross, and rose from the grave three days later.

Even nice guys are going to burn in hell, if you believe that kind of thing. You'll be right there with Ghandi and the rest of us truth seekers.
Maybe we'll get our own section.

Not according to my belief in how life came to be. However, I'm sure there are plenty of those will consider you evil, particularly the ones that like to quote "love thy neighbor".

Nope. In my belief system 'evil' has no practical meaning beyond 'causes harm to others'. As far as ı can see you don't. So you're okay in my book.
