Which ones all around better?

Old. The new Beetle is nothing more than a VW Golf with a nostalgic body... It's got nothing in common with the original except a slight shape resemblance. Though I will admit, they are a love 'em or hate 'em kinda car. I've owned 3 of them, and couldn't even explain why, but I love the feel of them.

I'm going to go with the Old Beetle. The reason being is, that the New Beetle claims to be the same in spirit, but its not. The Old Beetle was "A car for the people." It was basic, no frills, easy to work on. Air cooled engine, rear wheel drive, not much in the way of comfort, super reliable, and if you did have to work on it, it was pretty straight forward. It became a cult classic due to its low cost, anti-estabilshment image.
The New Beetle is only similar in outward appearence. It's water-cooled, front-engine, too pricey, too plush, and just a totally different vibe. I'd actually like it more if it wasn't called a Beetle.

Old Beetles are cool, but I would choose the new one. Old Beetles had no air conditioner, very little heat, and were slow as Christmas. Also very noisy. Gas mileage was in the low 20's. They really don't run well in cold weather.
An old Beetle would be great as a weekend fun car to fix up, but I wouldn't want it to be my everyday car. New Beetles are mostly a chick car but I still like them, especially the turbo.

The old Volkswagen Beetles were simpler and therefore more reliable. There is a lot more that can (mechanically and electrically) go wrong with the new Beetles.

neither, good GOD!! If I had a gun to my head AND HAD TO choose, I guess I would say old beetle.

old one, fix it up and paint it awesome collors and put eyelashes on the headlights so it looks like girl's eyes. it'll be cool.
