Parallax has a high school-level curriculum built around their STAMP microprocessor and robotics kits. For introductory robotics, it's hard to beat their stuff. You can find a number of tutorials and on-line texts at their site (see first link in sources). For deals, Parallax sells refurbished and clearance items on e-bay. Look for items being sold by seller "pbasic". They occassionally sell overstock items at greatly reduced prices through www.geeks.com.
There is a wikibook on robotics (see second link in sources).
There is a lot of interest in robotics. Use Yahoo (or your favorite search engine) to search on "robotics ebooks" or "robotics tutorials". You'll find thousands of "hits". Follow the "links" and "resources" on some of these and you'll find much that may fit your interests.
