have you ever seen a deer starve to death?
have you ever hit a deer with your car because they overpopulated and came into the city?
any animals ever ate your corn crop?
any rabbits that invaded your garden?
ok, i agree with you that killing for 'fun' is sicko,
i would hope that most hunters don't kill for 'fun'
i wouldn't shoot a lion for fun, but here in tucson we had a mountain lion came down from the mountains and attacked a human...hiker...
i have no problem killing that !
i even shot some crows and pigeons when there was just too many to deal with.
it was all legal.
now food for thought... how many horses used to be alive before the automobile was invented?
and how many cows get killed every day as compared to...
how many cows were alive 100 years ago?

It is not the killing. Anyone who kills an animal for the fun of it is not a hunter. It is for heathier meat - no preservatives, hormones or antibiotics. Can you say killing a deer that has been running it's whole life is less humane that a cow that is in an overcrowded unsanitary feedlot? There is the overpopulation issue.
Then hunting itself - the killing is the least. It is being outdoors, tracking an animal, testing your skills. Some people do it with a camera as well. But some of us were raised on game meat and know the benefits of hunting and wildlife management . Many hunters will say a blessing over the animal. It is not for the sake of killing.

For one if someones hunting for deer there NOT going to get squirrel unless there still in season and goes back to his vehicle and switch's guns. And second if someone lets "any" animal to rot then there not a "hunter" at all.....it's called poaching! And third it's not about just killing. Simple minded people like you will never understand or appreciate what mother nature intended us to indulge in and harvest! Maybe you should try it. You might be surprised how fun, rewarding, and how much more positive your outlook will be. I do more for wildlife every year just by purchasing a hunting/fishing license. You eat processed meat don't ya, well were do ya think that comes from.? I guess you like other people doing your dirty work for ya. Hunting is more than just "killing" it's about being out there with family, friends, learning respect, woodsmanship, to mature, and helping wildlife flourish without many dieing of diseases, starving, being hit by cars with family members aboard. I understand people with lack of information/knowledge will not if ever understand why, but thanks for asking and hopefully this helps you see how it's more about not the "killing" part but much more.

You understand the meat you buy in the stores...was alive at one time.
..As for the killing the bobcat to let it rot...killing a few squirrels for fun....it's stuff like that ,that makes people think all hunters are that way.. Some states ...have sports men for humanity. In which case the meat process houses....cut/wrap/package...and the meat is given to needy people. So, don't think that everybody that hunts...is just out killing things.

Ok, I hunt. And well to be honest it is fun when that spike of adrenalin pumps up and the thing everyone talks about when you were growing up, you do! But we need the meat also if we didnt bag an elk or deer every year we wouldnt have enoff money to buy meat and would eat salad all year. But i do think that poaching is wrong no one should just kill an animal to kill but if you need it or if it is in self defense its ok. I think that hunting is something that you either are grown up around or not and people shouldnt judge unless they really can experience the other life style. so maybe i guess i aggree both ways!

Do you see them selling venison in the meat dept.??? Do you know what those cows go through just to sit on your table?? Obviously, you are uneducated in the hunting area. The people that you overheard are sickening. Do you think all hunters do this? Think again.
And the next time you take a bite of meat, remember what that poor little animal had to go through just for you to enjoy.

You know I used to think the same way that you do, that is until I married a hunter. Now I have learned a thing or two about game animals and about the valid reasons for hunting.
When you have an area that is over populated with a certain species of animal, such as deer, the land cannot support a vast number of these animals. They over graze the land and disease runs rampant in this over populated area. Now, while most hunters will admit that they do it for the enjoyment of that "trophy kill" , they will also tell you that in order to keep the population undercontrol and to keep the number of diseases in this species down, it is necessary to "weed out" the older, more seasoned animals. A female deer, for example, can have a fawn once a year, and sometimes more than one at a time. Considering the number of does of reproducing age in a given area, the population of deer in that given area can double or even triple. There is not always enough food to go around for these animals. Therefore for the betterment of the species, it is necessary to thin out the species.
Now, in referrence to animals such as bobcats and coyotes, these animals are known to attack and kill smaller animals, such as newborn cattle, deer fawns, and even domestic animals such as dogs or cats. They are known predators, and killing them is also a form of population contol.
As cruel as it may sound to kill squirrels for fun, do you realize how quickly they breed?? A female squirrel breeds every 10 weeks, and can have up to 8-10 babies at a time. I don't know where you live, but trust me, where we live we are in abundance of squirrels. If these animals are not thinned out, we would be over run with them. Squirrels can carry rabies, just like a racoon or a skunk. I don't know about you, but I would rather a hunter have a little fun killing them, than risk the spread of this deadly disease.
Like I said, I once felt the same way you do, however I was willing to listen to what my husband and his hunting friends were trying to teach me. I also took the time to read some of the articles in the hunting magazines that my husband gets.
As far as leaving them to rot, well what would you expect someone to do with a dead coyote or bobcat? Give it a proper buriel?
Instead of being so against hunters, consider that more animals are killed by the spread of humans into their habitats, than by hunters.

Most hunters don't kill for fun. What would happen if there was no hunting season? The animals(especially deer) would die of disease and starvation. They would also become so overpoplulated that it would not be safe to drive. It is already dangerous to drive at night in many places because of the large deer population.
Hunting is something that goes back a long time. It is part of our heritage.

Killing animals just for fun isn't cool, and most hunters don't do it.
There is something primal about killing your own meat, and I think that anyone who eats meat should be willing to kill and clean to eat it--passing that chore on to someone else is fine most of the time, but if you are morally unable to kill an animal it is just as wrong to hire a slaughterhouse and butcher to do it for you.
I eat meat, and deer is yummy, so I'll hunt. If these "hunter's" fathers were worth anything, the first time the kid shot a squirrel the dad should have made him clean, cook and eat it. Then he would have a little more respect for the woods and the wildlife in it.
