Community empowerment is a nothing word. Its a poticians' vote winner. The idea is that communities have a voice, and a responsibility. But the problem is "what is a community?" It seems to be realted to race etc etc.

A wide definition is `people power`. It is when people get together for a common good. They can alter or enhance things which affect them as whole.The very weight of their numbers can be responsible for big changes with the authorities etc.It has in the past made people realise that those in charge are not always right and decisions made can be altered by enough people intervening.It works in many different ways, Protest marches are simple example.

Empowerment is a weasel word that means nothing but sounds good. It means having the illusion of power when in truth you have none at all. It is BS. Social Workers jargon.

as a community dvelopment worker , it is a very important concept... it is about the provision of opportunities for communities & its members to develop the skills, knowledge & experience to empower themselves, to build needs focused, community centred infra structures & processes ... i essence its about trying to work myself out of a job! hope this helps!

get each community to run their area like like neighborhood watch area clean up some say in what will happen to development in that area some what like self goverment but with in limits
