I know it doesn't last long - and may or not be linked to love - but why is that feeling of abandoned lust just so wonderful ?

Because it's instant gratification. Love is hard, and it's like a flower that grows over time, or can wither over time. Love is continuous and more of an emotional feeling. Lust is more physical feeling, but it's like a drug, because it's very temporary. But you have to take it with a grain of salt because people mistake lust for love. It feels good at the time and a few minutes afterwards, but you get sober real quick.

I think it's the feeling of not quite being in control of how I feel that does it for me. When I lust after a woman, I can't help it and it gives me such a natural high. I feel like I just have to have her right now no matter what and I can't concentrate on anything else.

We as a the human race in a whole lust after something from birth to death. That emotion can't be all bad if it were why were we given this emotion. Sometimes a bit of lust can get you through a day. lol lol lol lol

Feels great doesn't it? But then when it is over you crash and go on a hunt again to find it. It will eventualy hurt you and there are people to talk to that can "break" the habit. No addiction is healthy...but lust can lead to potentialy harmful health problems, drugs, and other addictions.

it's that feeling of abandonment... it doesn't make sense to pursue, they're usually bad for you, etc, etc...but when something's a bit forbidden it always becomes much more exciting, which increases the 'lust factor'
Usually ends in tears though, but fun while it lasts!

It gets the adrenaline going and you begin to crave that butterfly feeling of excitement - I love it, you simply cannot beat it. In fact I'm a bit worried cos if I don't have that with someone then I don't want to know!

It makes us feel alive all over inside, and often does lead to love. Specially if the other person feels the same way, and as strongly.
