No peer-reviewed, internationally accepted studies show correlation.
Some of the greatest thinkers in history have been believers.
Some of histories greatest morons have also.

Yes, IQ has a negative correlation of about r= -0.8 world wide, which is an exceptionally large correlation.
This means there is a consistant and reoccuring relationship between your IQ and how religious you are. A negative correlation means higher IQ usually results in lower religiousness and vise versa.
The country specific correlation is probably much less. Most of the negative correlation comes from the fact most poor countries that have very low IQ are also highly religious.

No, it is not true that "all religious people have a lower IQ..." I personally know many religious people with incredibly high IQs, and Mensa's website will tell you that they have members of all sorts of different religions.
Okay, I have a reasonably decent IQ, but what's an EQ.

I had a link to a list of studies over the past century. I wish I had bookmarked it. Most studies showed the more fervent you are about your religion, the lower your IQ. 2 or 3 had them equal or the reverse effect. It was not a huge disparity though in most of the studies.
here is another page with a list of the studies and an example from it.

16. Norman Poythress, 1975
Mean SATs for strongly anti-religious (1148), moderately anti-religious (1119), slightly anti-religious (1108), and religious (1022).
you notice it does not keep dropping and i do not know the definitions they used to draw these conclutions.

Not with my IQ but I tend to have a logical and analytical mind which prevents me from accepting anything solely on faith without some factual evidence to support it. I don't think a lot of Christians even click their brain into gear when it comes to their beliefs.

Actually, in my particular religion (LDS) studies have shown the more educated a person is, the more devoted they are. I know that's not true for some other religions though, I just know that we're always being told in church to get as much education as we can, it's a pretty big deal for us.

I've heard of a correlation between education and not being religious, but not one between IQ & being not/being religious.

I think so, yes. Most people are attracted to simplistic religons- "Do as god says or else.......", basically Christianity and Islam. And we know that most people have low IQ, can you see a relation?

I think St. Paul had the right idea:
1Co 1:25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than men: and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
1Co 1:26 For see your vocation, brethren, that there are not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble.
1Co 1:27 But the foolish things of the world hath God chosen, that he may confound the wise: and the weak things of the world hath God chosen, that he may confound the strong.

blanket statement, i recon. There are lots of bright believers, and some not so bright atheists. However, there are many Deists who just go along, becuz they'r scared of a life without belief, they need some crutch, or something like that.
