I have been asking for the gift of tongues for some time now. Well, last night, while in my sleep, my husband tells me I suddenly raised my hands and clearly started speaking another language. I have no memory of it. What does this mean?

Since it's in your mind, you dreamed about it. It's in your subconscious. Though you may not remember dreaming about it, like most of us hardly remember all of our nightly dreams, your body reacted it to it. Kind of like sleep talking. That's it.

I sometimes dream in spanish or portuguese...but that's probably not what you're talking about.
My question is, what do you want the gift of tongues for? Are you hoping to share the gospel with someone that speaks another language?
For me, the gift of tongues was quieter (less flamboyant if you will) and it just helped me learn Portuguese extremely fast, and very well so I could serve a mission in Portugal.

Spend some time reading I Corinthians - Tongues are a way for people to communicate to God. It (as far as I could tell) would require us to be conscious, so we are actually communicating with Him. If God were granting your request for tongues, why would He give it to you in your sleep so you didn't remember or were confused so much by it. Remember, God is not the author of confusion.
Could the actualy answer be more boring than a miraculous sign gift? Could you desire the gift so much in your conscious hours that your brain creates these episodes out of your subconscious?
If God wants to give you the gift of tongues, He will ,and you'll be sure, not confused, when it happens.

What is the gift of tongues, exactly. I heard some jibberish at church once that I couldn't make out. Is God supposed to be talking through you when this happens?

Means you are getting what you asked for,,gift of speaking in tongues,,thank your father for this,,ask Him to bring back what you was dreaming about,,try to remember your dreams and write them down..

Same thing as if you walked in your sleep, not much. Or maybe he just coudn't understand what you said. I'm rarely coherent in my night speech.

what does tounges mean and maybe he was dreaming maybe it didnt happen you never know
