It sucks, when you love your dog and she is part dog/ part pig. My dog will eat anything. My worst problem was when I went away for a week, she stayed at my mother-in-laws, There she is spoiled, she gets her own meals cooked for her. I came home and she was looking like a ball with legs! So I had to put her on the doggy diet, mainly meaning, just dog food. She doesn't like it and than refuses to eat anything...I hold out until she gives in. Only dog food.Keep her out of rooms where she may find some yummy people food or garbage. Most of all, lots of activites! I started jogging with her(she hates it), and long walks (when I can fit it in). Bringing a ball or her favorite stuffed toy is good too, she likes to play. This has been approx. 3 weeks now, she has a waistline again, and is not dying when we walk up a hill.It can be done, but you have to be firm, and motivated. Good luck!

Do more than just going for a walk.
She needs to get out there and have to move to keep up - really move at a trot and later a run..
Now, I have an older girl who is the kind he would gain weight on a serving of cheap dog food that was only a 1/2 portion for her size. Iams and the other okay brands - even diet - didn't do the trick.
She actually dropped weight when I switched her to Solid Gold. They make a food for small breeds. It is a top pick of serious breeders and dog show people.
You can't buy it at the grocery or Walmart or Petsmart. Go here to read about it and find a dealer. You can call and talk to the nutritionist.

Have the vet run a thyroid test. That is a frequent cause of pudgieness depsite diet and exercise.

24 hr Gym's now have personal k9 trainers. Classes are usually conducted mid afternoon or after the rush in the evenings. They get the dog used to the equipment ( you know treadmill, stair climer etc ), then the dogs have a great time. Some of the gym's also allow the dogs in the pool to do a cou[ple of laps and after into the whirlpool to loosen up the tight muscles. Check out the nearest 24hr. This month as an introduction, with every membership, the dog is given a head band and two wrist band. All have 24hr logo's on them.

Put her on a better food and limit her portions. Foods that are high in fillers (like corn) are also not good for your dog weight-wise. Limit her portions of ALL of the food she is eating including treats. Get her involved in some dog sports like agility or flyball to help her burn off some calories.
If you can't watch her when you're not home and keep her out of the pantry, crate her or babygate her into a certain room with no access to food.

Yes, definitely! My aunt's dog has lost a lot of weight recently. With diet foods, walks, and a little encouragement your dog can lose weight.( sounds like a cheezy commercial! XD) Although some dogs lose weight quicker than others. Hope this helped.

You can feed her about 1/2 a cup a day or use the special weight loss foods.

You must get your vet to put her on a special dog food for overweight dogs. Ask your vet how many times a day you should feed her and if she is getting into food while you are away from the house put it under lock and key and do not feed her table scraps that is the worst thing for your dog.If you don't get her weight down this is what could happen. Kidney failure, heart attack please don't let this happen to your dog

Buy her the 'weight management' food instead of regular food, and for god's sake keep her out of the ppl food. IF you cant put away the snacks then how's she supposed to get skinnier?
Daily walking too, of course. Frisby, catch, anythign else you can do.

Yeah that's bad for her. You are doing good with what you are trying but always make sure to do things in moderation. don't exercise her for one full day and not do it again. You have to have a set rutine for her and once she gets used to it, you will start to see the difference. Plus the more she does she builds muscle instead of fat.
Hope this helps.
