has anybody here donated plasma? I have donated blood a long time ago when I was 17. Can a girl donate plasma if she is menstruating?

I donated plasma for a long time. I personally wouldn't recommend it while on a period, but since you get your red blood cells back while donating you should be okay if you do. Plasma just takes the watery part of your blood, and you replenish that in a few hours. No big deal really. But i am gonna tell you that the needles are HUGE, and they will leave scars after a while- I have them still and I quit donating about 8 years ago. It is a good thing to do, however, and don't let the rude people who posted earlier tell you different. I bet they'd be the 1st in line for it if they had an injury.

Of course....when you donate platelets or plasma, the blood is separated so that these elements can be drawn out and then the rest of the blood is returned to your body. Your body replaces plasma much faster than whole blood so you can actually donate much more frequently. Hope you decide to go forward with this. I donated platelets frequently while working in a cancer hospital and I never felt more helpful doing anything else. It is also so very appreciated.

Good luck!

They don't recommend it while you are menstruating. They would probably tell you to come in before or after, but that is up to them.
