I think it is because some Christians do not remember that religion means all faiths and lack of faith not just their choice. It is also forgotten that the first amendment says "freedom of and from religion". As a non-christian, I do not want to walk in to a public courthouse and have to face the ten commandments. That is endorsing a religion that is not mine, and worries me that I will not get an equal opportunity, because my faith is different. Fundamentalists forget that they are not the only group requiring rights. Even if we were a Christian nation, no two churches can agree on exactly what the requirements are to be a good Christian. That is the main reason why the first amendment is there.

Americans are free to criticize anything and anyone they please. I have no objections to American Christians criticizing Humanism, my chosen moral philosophy, or any other, and I feel free to criticize Christianity. Freedom of expression is just as important as freedom of conscience. Christians also criticize Christianity, just as Humanists criticize Humanism. Criticism can be good. We can learn from it. It can make us better.
As for suing--most Americans will agree that we are entirely too litigious a society, but we cherish the right to take others to court when we feel we have been wronged. I'd rather see people sue one another than brawl in the streets. I say let the courts decide the merits of each case. If a suit has no merit, let the judge throw it out.

Because even though many Christians feel that they are being persecuted by those of us who are not. which is bull pucky, more then 70% of people in the US are Christian. and under the false impression that this country was founded on the Christian religion, which it was not. and they need to take back the country for Jesus. and they fail to accept the first amendment of the Bill of rights. They also feel that there way is the right and only way. most do not follow the true teaching of Jesus, instead they have a warped sense of Christianity. Like the Rapture, The rapture as people discribe today, is not in the bible. and its completely contraticts jesus. People have seen this through out History, thats why the founding fathers but our basic rights has Americans in the Bill of right, to avoid perversing of our liberties by those who think that they know better then then rest of us. somethings are not for others to decide what is best for you. only you can decide them.
From the Treaty of tripoli
Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.
Thomas Jefferson
I do not find in orthodox Christianity one redeeming feature.
If God is just, I tremble for my country
It is in our lives and not our words that our religion must be read.
Thomas Paine
Belief in a cruel God makes a cruel man
My mind is my own church
Abraham Lincoln
Don't interfere with anything in the Constitution. That must be maintained, for it is the only safeguard of our liberties.
care not much for a man's religion whose dog and cat are not the better for it.
Our safety, our liberty, depends upon preserving the Constitution of the United States as our fathers made it inviolate. The people of the United States are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution, but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution
James Madison
If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.
John Adams
Power always thinks... that it is doing God's service when it is violating all his laws.
First they came for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up,
because I wasn't a Communist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up,
because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak up,
because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me,
and by that time there was no one
left to speak up for me.
by Rev. Martin Niemoller, 1945.

If you ask me...very recent history shows that Christian based religions are getting hammered everyday too.
There's more lawsuits about the 10 Commandments, God in school and crosses than you can shake a stick at.
So I ask where the freedom of religion is too? And don't beat me with the "Seperation of church and state" thing. That was just to keep the government from instituting a national religion but it has since been bastardized into what you hear on the news now.

You have GOT to be kidding me! Which religion is sued and criticized the most? The CHRISTIAN religion! I don't hear about athiests being sued because they don't want prayer in schools. In fact, on Yahoo answers the religion that gets bashed the most is Christianity. How do people not see that?

The U.S. also has the freedom of speech, and a judicial system for cases of slander or libel.
But really, if you just hang out on this board long enough, you'll find every religion gets criticized, even the Christian ones.

Give some examples. You don't know what oppression is, perhaps you should go visit Saudi Arabia.
And by the way, I'm not Christian and even I can tell that Christianity is the only religion which is permitted to bash.

Huh? Christians are the ones being criticized! The ACLU protects everyone else. I personally don't have a problem with any religion.

What planet do you live on...Christianity in the US is under attack from almost every direction. From lawsuits against the Pledge of Allegiance, to prayer in school, to public nativity scenes to crosses at war memorials and on city seals, secular, anti-religious forces are trying to bury Christianity.
