Open your mind. Investigate your religion. Be skeptical to its claims. Maybe in time you'll realize that these PARABLES are exactly that-----made up stories. I'm hesitant to use the phrase "fairy tales" but learn to question even your most deeply held beliefs, and maybe you'll find that without the hinderance of religion, the world would be a much better place.

Upon careful reading of this section, especially when read in the original hebrew, this verse is a look inside God's mind. God wasn't saying that man would live to 120, rather that mankind was being given 120 years to mend its ways lest the flood come. If you notice that immediately after this, Noah is given the command to build the ark....it took Noah 100 years to complete the job.

God was setting forth the rough lifespan of a human. Turns out to be relatively correct - The most we can hope for is somehting approaching 120 years.

I understand that to be the length of time left before the flood came. Later, God declared man's days to be three-score and ten, which would be seventy. I guess it's an average.

That is the max a person can live now. God basically conditioned our bodies to live to that age. We, as human beings, like to do things that hurt our body and lessen our life span though (i.e. drugs, alcohal, smokeing, fatty/fast food, etc..). It's not God's fault if you don't live to 120 .... You can make that choice. (for the most part - barring any unforseen incidents)

Psalm 90:10
The length of our days is seventy years— or eighty, if we have the strength; yet their span is but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.

That is how long people had to repent and be ready to get on the ark before the flood.
