My husband and I just recently got a cockerpoo. Is anyone familiar with this breed, know their likes and dislikes, and if they are good dogs?

a cockapoo isn't a breed. it's a mutt cross between a cocker spaniel and a poodle. I'm not trying to say this is a bad thing, but the first thing you should realize is that it isn't a breed and therefore, there is no standard which 'breeders' breed according to. Therefore, it's nearly impossible to provide you with a list of common traits, health problems etc. I suppose you could assume that the dog will be like a cocker in some respects and a poodle in others, but there's no way to tell which aspects of each breed your dog may have.

A Cockapoo or Cockerpoo is a hybrid dog, created by crossing an American Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle, in most cases the Miniature Poodle or Toy Poodle. Breeders usually try to retain the small build of the American Cocker Spaniel, while retaining the wavy quality of the Poodle's coat.

The Cockapoo has been popular in the United States since at least the 1960s. It has become so common that many, if not most, Cockapoos on the market today are the result of breeding male and female Cockapoos rather than of a direct cross between the Cocker Spaniel and the Poodle.

The Cockapoo is still under development. Strictly speaking, the Cockapoo cannot be described as a dog breed because it does not 'breed true'. In breeders' terms, 'breeding true' means that, when two specimens of the same breed are mated, the puppies have more consistently predictable characteristics and will resemble their parents, rather than exhibiting random characteristics of the dog breeds in their parents' ancestries.

If youwant a crossbred, bypass to a rescue kennels, do no longer pay pedigree expenditures for a mongrel! unlike "Sprockers" that are often bred to do a particular job of artwork, there is not any valid reason to pass a Cocker with a Poodle, different than to furnish the domestic canines a stupid call (somewhat no longer an "respected" call!) the two breeds have the comparable hereditary eye situations, so the father and mom ought to have modern sparkling eye certificates formerly being bred. the form of breeder probable to offer those domestic dogs intentionally isn't at risk of have accomplished those tests or bred with temperament as a concern. purchase a Poodle or a Cocker from an excellent breeder and you have gotten a plenty extra beneficial theory of ways the domestic dog will develop up.

It's a mutt, pure and simple. If the Cocker was good enough to be considered breeding stock it sure as heck would have never been bred to a Poodle. So not only is a Cockapoo a mixed breed, it is a mixed breed of inferior quality parents.

They are wonderful dogs. They are very good with kids and are very smart. I've been wanting a puppy for a while, and hope one turns up soon.
