Otherwise, our world will fill up with holy books that we cannot recycle and we will have to store them in hollowed out skyscrapers or something, or even in facilites underground where they can decay untouched in dignity...we can't burn them, we can't put them under at sea. What can we do with them without upsetting all the holy men?

Actually, fire is considered appropriate for most holy books, so long as it is done with reverence and respect. Prefered would be to pass it on to someone else who needs it.

Holiness isn't in the book, it isn't even in the words, it's in the being supposedly described.

well this isn't as complicated as it sounds. ummm even I know what to do with them. And why. You don't seem to know though, which is puzzling. And I'm hoping someone else is going to tell you. However at some time or other I may have to because things have a funny way of working out like that when I decide not to do something.

Orthodox Jews are under an obligation to bury anything containing God's name. That's one thing which happens. Christians are able to donate them to organisations which can recycle them for use in parts of the world where books of any kind are hard to come by and are gratefully received. In your case, you haven't finished yet. Get on with your reading!

Bury. Put in running water. Restore if antique editions or handwritten manuscripts and then donate to a Museum. Recycle if the conscience may not prick; your motive was honest.

Keep it and read it again that is what we muslims do once we pray the holy qura'an we read it again and that's not the only book we read we there are so many books we the popular one is also the hadith where they tell you everything about islam and give you stories on Islam. Or you can give irt to the church if it's a christian holy book or the mosque if it's a muslim holy book.

I would have thought that burning them is the answer. Seems the least offensive way.

you mean like an old bible? toss it. give it away. The bible is not god, nor does god live in the bible. the bible is a book. the holy spirit speaks through it, but to treat the bible itself as an abode of God is idol worship
