My dog has earmites and I bought the earmite treatment, but they seem to be bothering her more so. I was going to try and clean out her ears before I put the treatment in but I have no clue what to clean it out with. Any suggestions?

First clean the ears with hydrogen peroxide, dry the ear and ear canals, then apply warm baby oil...fill the ear canal (do this procedure outside as it is messy)...keep dog's head tilted for a few minutes. (The baby oil smothers the ear mites...mites breathe through openings along their sides called spiracles and the oil block the spiracles)...repeat on the other ear, the dry off excess oil. Repeat as often as you like but you will need to do this about 3 times to remove all the mites.

It's horrible to have itching and irritation inside your ear, so we should understand what it feels like for the dog. I have one very shaggyhaired dog who was plagued with the problem. I never found store bought products any use, but your veterinarian definitely has effective treatment in the form of a solution that you drop in e ach ear according to the vet's instructions. But do NOT try poking around in the ears yourself with anything. The proper drops are d esigned to eliminate the mites, and the body will do its own job of flushing the "junk" out. Vet will probably suggest you come back in a couple of weeks to check the ears when, with any luck, they will look clear a nd healthy. .

hold your dog steady and either use q tips or just simply dose the dogs ears with warm soapy water first. the dog will not like the water in it's ears but put in some water soapy water and work it in before the dog gets away. also have the dog on a leash so it can't run to far away too and do the other ear then apply treatment
