Because it's overrefined (zero nutrition) and it immediately breaks down into simple sugar. It's the same reason eating tablespoons of raw sugar is bad for you.

White bread is NOT BAD for you, it just isn't as GOOD for you as brown.

It contains the SAME amount of starch, sugars, salt & less yeast than brown bread, but not the beneficial wheat germ & bran.

Incedently Gillian McKeith is a self serving 'doctor' that uses pseudo science & manipulated facts to mislead gullible people. ALL foods are converted into sugars to be used by the body as fuel. The comment that there is 7 spoonfuls of sugar IN a thickly buttered slice of toast is WRONG. There are as many CALORIES, ie. as much ENERGY in it as the toast v sugar. There is NO added sugars in bakery bread, only in some cheap mass produced rubbish - this is a VERY small proportion and added ONLY to speed fermentation (as food for the yeast). If you want proof - read an effing recipie book on 'how to make bread'!

It's had the wholesome ingredients removed, and it digests so poorly that when your colon contracts, the goo can get stuck in pockets, which could cause diverticultis. It also is worse for your blood sugar, among other things.

Once you get used to 100% whole wheat, the white bread tastes icky. I wish that pizza places would offer whole wheat, but it's good to make your own pizzas with it.

Also, all of the fast food places have white bread, and I think it's part of the unhealthy conspriracy that causes diseases.

i wouldnt consider it bad for ya because you eat more then just white bread in a single day to make up what it takes out so its not realy that bad unless ur on a - eat nothing but white bread diet. All though i preffer wheat over white.

It tasktes good because you are addicted to the sugar in it, if you cut out white bread for 2 -4 weeks you won't even think it's that nice anymore. Also, it has basically no nutriants in it so you will just get hugry again soon after eating it and thereby eat more.

Not all white bread is bad for you, sometimes it's what you put on it that makes it better or worse. You could have a choice between white bread with something healthy or dark bread with something really fatty and unhealthy... which one would you chose?

White bread tastes rank and doughy. Start eating brown bread and you will never look back once you get the taste for it.

I know that is such a bummer!
I found ou, just the other day that a nice crispy white slice of toast spread thickly with butter- according to Gillian Mckeith contains 7tsp's of sugar......
I say lets burn 'you are what you eat'
I will never be able to enjoy toast as much anymore- It's too much of a sin!

wonderbread makes a new bread which hasthe nutrients of whole grain AND the look, texture and taste of white bread

Everything that tastes soooooo goooood is usually really baaaaaaaad for you! But essentially it's because they strip all of the nutrients out of the wheat when the process it into flour.
