My friend started having two cats and now after a year he got about 17 aside including the two he adopted. He spent about $700 for the castrating some.

The best idea is to get the females spayed. Nuetering the males is good to fight the pet population problem, but only your female cats will be bringing the kittens home. If you can only afford to do one or the other, get the females fixed. That way they cant get knocked up by your males or other males around the neighborhood.
Also, your friend might want to look into health code violations of pet ownership in his area. In urban or suburban areas there is usually a limit to how many pets can live in one residence. Also, with that many cats he better be getting them all their shots, or he's going to have a bunch of kitties sick with feline lukemia or feline HIV in no time flat. Theres no cures for those diseases, and they are rampant and highly contagious in environments with lots of cats in close quarters. I had a friend who's four cats turned into a hundred in a little over a year, and a year later they all had died of feline lukemia.
In this state animal neglect and abuse (like neglecting to get your pets their shots) is a serious crime, so check the laws in your state.
Getting 17 cats their shots will cost a small fortune. I suggest its time to take them to a shelter to adopt them out. Find a no kill shelter and make sure its one that spays and nueters before adopting the cats out to a new family.
Good luck!

.....vet. Thats all Im going to say. that is absolute torture for a cat to keep breeding and breeding.

There is not a "day after" or birth controll pill for cats.

If your friend is worried about the cost then he needs to either sign it over to a shelter. Some vet offices and shelters offer discounted rates on spaying and neutering for those who can't afford it. But both cats and all offspring need help.

Spay and neuter. Many shelters offer the service as substantial discounts. If you take them to a vet, they'll rip you off. MIne even tries to sell me heartworm medicationin the winter, where there are no mosquitos in zone 6!

I paid $120 for spaying two girl cats at a non-profit, mobile clinic in Connecticut. Included shots, physical, and treatment as needed. Cats recover at home, so it is very affordable

There is no magic pill for cats, they just need to be desexed. It is better for your friend and the cats (plus you'll end up with inbred cats, LOL!). It may seem costyly but it will be a whole lot better for everyone concerned in the long run :) Good Luck

We have been blessed with many wild cats that gathered in one out building. My wife feeds them every day, and you can guess how many cats we've created. I have searched the internet, spoke with three different Vets, and asked that same question to Cat Fancy, (magazine). I have no idea why, but as far as I've been informed, there isn't anything available. I believe it because of the decline in altering cats if produced. Bottom line, MONEY. There is no excuse, we should have something available.

It would be better to ask your vet if there is a pill for cats to take to not become pregnant. They would probably say spray and neuter the cat.

just get the cat spayed/neutered. much easier than trying to give the poor cat a pill every day

You can get your cat spayed/netuered for under $100. If you ask around you can get a low-cost "spay neuter certificate" for only $30-50. If you get all your cats neutered, there won't be any more cats.

No pills, just a medical procedure called spaying. Listen to Bob Barker and have your pet spayed or neutered today!

No, there is not. But check with the local animal shelter - a lot of them have small fees for "fixing" animals to prevent overpopulating. I know here in NYC, it can be done for as little as $25.00
