...answers, does it mean that you have a thin skin, or that you just want that freedom of speech thing to only apply to yourself, and not your critics, or people who seek to respond to your criticism?

I took a long time answering a question that for some unknown reason, has been struck from the public record. You leave no way of contacting you, so I guess that conversation is lost. It was a well thought out answer, which would probably be ignored anyway, as you seem to only want responses from like minded people. Have at this one... Free speech is a two way street. There are those who like to use free speech for any purpose, and I would die defending anyone's right to do so. Do not attempt to preclude my right to respond to you, or to treat a pompous sounding question in a way that I believe it deserves...

Love Shepherd - no whining here... get over yourself... the question has everything to do with religion, and I just tried to carefully word it so that it wouldn't have to be withdrawn. No need to bless me, I haven't sneezed...

I ask a lot of questions on this forum, which could be concidered as poking fun ar someone's beliefs.

To me it isn't poking fun, I do have a fundamental problem with any fundamentalist, from all beliefs; Christians, Muslims, Atheists, whatever. All good people, excpet the fundamentalist few. Sadly enough the fundamentalists of all those groups seem to visit Yahoo!Answers a lot...

Anyhow, to answer the question, your example is indeed an example of "thin skin". I pick a lot of times a best answer that completely disagrees with me, but at least tries to teach me something. I thinkt hat's what this board was meant for.

Freedom of speech is always a two way street!

It is not fair. And this applies to everyone, not one group. If I were to ask a question that blatently offended a certain group, then I should not be upset over receiving answers by that group, angry over my question. That's why I try to not post offensive questions, or I always let the target audience know that I don't mean to be offensive.

Free speech is a two way street, but some people from all walks of life seem to think it applies only to them.

If you can dish it out, you have to be able to take it. Freedom of Speech doesn't mean freedom from rudeness, intolerance or jerks. Anything posted on a public board is sure to draw snide, rude and ignorant comments by those snide, rude and ignorant few. You do need a thick skin here, though. Both with attacks on the board, and the ensuing emails. Personal battles are best left to more private venues, in my opinion. We have enough wars, we don't need them here.

freedom of speech is a great thing. i do not, however, think its right to attack someone for a different opinion. it is one thing to present your side with intelligence and knowing that you cant change someone elses mind. belittling someone for having a different opinion just shows close-minded ignorance. people may have the right to say whatever they want but that doesnt make it right or tactful. as i have no idea what youre talking about specifically, i cant speak of their question or your answer.

Boo hoo. Freedom of speech includes the right to retract a statement. And this site allows that. Get over it friend and ask a questions about religion or go do your whining in the YA section of YA.

Bless you though.

respect should be an absolute must when engaging in free speech. If you are not respectful don't expect that your answer be left alone. It is your right to have an opinion. It is common decency to be respectful.

Thus is the way of Christians. They want to have Freedom of Speech to proclaim their message. But they want everyone else's message silenced. Maybe its because they know their message won't hold much water against opposition. Who knows?
