Everything in scripture is there to allow us to discern God's truth, and to understand the problems people have with various types of sin, so we can appreciate why we all need Jesus Christ as our savior.
What we see on TV and in movies is usually there purely for "entertainment" purposes, and rather than enhancing our discernment of God's truth, it actually fosters confusion, and encourages sin.

There are some very graphic sexually violent things that are described in the bible. For example...when the woman who was cheating on her husband with another man, and the husband came in and speared them both thru her their genatals,. or the graphic explanations of what was going on in Sodom and Gomorrah. As a kids sitting in a meeting for 8 hours out of the week, we all looked for these verses to keep our selves entertained while the man on the stage rambled for 2 hours. There were some boys in the congregation that thought it was cool the way the abuse of woman was described.I do believe that there is a huge difference between the sex and violence that is in the bible and the stuff you see in the movies. For example 8MM." or "The hills have eyes"or any other gory movie that gets people to enjoy watching bloody sexual abuse of woman. The producers of these films have no moral conscience and are making these films for the shock value that they offer to the viewer. Shock value means more money to line their pockets. The sexually violent story's in the bible at least have a lesson to be learned. Most of the time.

Sex and violence on tv is for some perverse entertainment.
The bible is an account of some event that happened, or a way of life at the time. The bible doesnt give explicit details of sexual acts, or gorry violence.

Certainly. Just as there is a difference between the violence in Saving Private Ryan and Saw or House of 1000 corpses.
Violence, sex, etc., for the purpose of accurate history is one thing, but that is quite different than gratuitous violence, sex, etc for the sole purpose of entertainment.

There is a difference between historical documentation and fiction. Remove "Bible" from the question and insert the title of any book about the Roman emperors and it's the same thing, except more obvious due to lack of religious attachments.

when the bible was first put into print, so that the common man/woman could read it! guess which particular establishment was totally against it?
my advise, if you don't like sex on tv, don't watch tv!
make sure you use the off button and not stand by, save the planet!

It's all part of the hypocrisy of the bible. It's bad fiction from WAY too many authors over too long a period with differing agendas.

Mostly context. The Bible condemns David for having sex out of wedlock, TV praises people for it. But if you read the Song of Solomon, there's not much in there that Solomon and Shulamite don't do... after they're married... and that's the Biblical manual for Biblical love making.
I even read one (rather compelling) interpretation where the Song of Solomon 8:8-14 was Shulamite inviting one of her friends to join Solomon's harem, and Solomon was basically like, "uh... her? Well, if it will make you happy, my love, but... do I have to?"

TV and the movies tend to glamorize sex and violence.
The Bible states what people did and tell us what the consequences of those action will be.
