you should have mentioned what kind of food you currently feed and what country you live in -
read the ingredient lable you NEVER want to see CORN, or "by-products" as first ingredients.. infact you dont want to see them even in the top 3 spots...
corn is cheap filler - not very digestable
by-products are beaks feet feathers
ALL cat food sold in grocery store or wal Mart is crap- junk - too much filler so the cat has to eat much more food than if it was on a better quality food... eating more and eating more filler makes gas...
look for the ingredient YUCCA... which is for odor control
go to a pet food store and get one with CHICKEN MEAL, LAMB MEAL, or TURKEY MEAL as first ingredient.. rice should be instead of corn as second...
and avoid the fillers corn and by-prodcuts

Urea and ammonia are the main two reasons why poop stinks. The best way to treat it is by changing the diet to a more proper diet. Talk to your vet, they can probably list a good food for cats. I know Purina does a lot of research on their pet foods. You might try Purina.
Also avoid the cat foods that contain almost no meats. Cats need meat and fat. It is essential to their diet. Getting fat and protein from grains is not the same as getting it from meat. It's hard to explain the difference. I'm sure a veterinarian could give you a long winded speech, but in short...cats need meat or more precisely they need animal fat in their diet.

I just got a new kitten less than a week ago and MAN he can clear out a room when he poops. For the first couple of days he was eating fancy feast food from the grocery store but I took him to the vet and she recommended Eukaneuba or Science Diet from the pet store. Since he's switched foods the stink isn't quite so bad. He still watches me and "laughs" when I clean out his litter box though.

the food at wal-mart is not cheap food by the way (previous answer). Purina cat chow and Purina One are AWESOME cat foods that are specialy formulated for your cat.
My little guy had that problem as well, but I found out that my boyfriend was feeding him human food...shame. So I stopped that and his stool hardening and he stopped farting so much. Cats are going to pass gas, its natural.
If you want you can always go for the extremely pricey vet food. But I do suggest that you slowly transition your cat to a good quality food such as Purina or Iams brand.

Change his food to a better quality of food. For example Purina cat chow..I feed Purina cat chow for sensitive tummy's to my cat, and her poo don't stink near as bad as what it used to..lol I also switched to Fresh step cat litter -scoop able- b/c I can't stand a stinky litter box-even if you are religious about cleaning it..lol..Just an idea.. It will help alot if you change his food..Don't always feed him moist either that will cut down on his stinkyness..lol

your first answer(above) is your best answer. we feed our cats the best(inova, wellness) they have soft silky coats with virtually no matts, their poop still stink a little (especially when the don't cover it up), but nowhere near the smell of my friends cats that feed them cheap stuff from the grocery store. go to a pet food store or petsmart

I know some of the soft canned food will make extra stinky doo doo. Try some of the dietary blends.....rice and lamb...No fish.
This was a very funny question....it was hard to be serious.

for the same reason ours does. its mainly in their diet a change of consistancy in their diet can cause odors that would clear a 2 story building because thier bodies have not become used to the foods they are consuming. moiste cat foods will also cause this

every creature's poop sticks. seriously though, he may have a medical problem. have the vet check him out & have the vet suggest a good quality cat food (Science Diet, Iams, Eucanuba).
I hope there's nothing wrong with kitty that good cat food won't cure.
