There were more people than that. When Cain left, he took one of his sisters with them.

Or so you assume that there are only two other humans alive at that time. The Bible does not indicate when the incident between Cain and Abel took place and it is likely that they already had numerous brothers and sisters. It would make no sense for them to be fully grown men and still the only two offspring of Adam and Eve.

That's what happens when you assume. Where does it SAY that there were only the four of them? The Bible doesn't mention every single detail of ANY story. That would be impossible, not to mention boring writing. You really believe that in the time it took for Cain and Abel to grow up, their parents would have NO other children??? So then Seth was the third child, born when Eve was like 40???? Use a LITTLE common sense when you read the Bible.

There is some theory that Adam had another wife, also invented by god, but she was a strong woman and Adam divorced her for the milder Eve. The theory is that Lilith and Adam had children that are not mentioned in the bible as Lilith has the reputation of being an evil woman because she was sexual and willful.
I dunno but maybe there were people born that the Bible doesn't mention. Obviously so due to the scripture you just stated.
Isn't it funny that the good, ole days families had such dysfunction! Family members already afraid of each other, killing each other, having sex with each other, etc! And today we worry about a little incest and child molestation! The "Good Ole Days" make the modern world look mild, don't they?

Adam and Eve had many sons and daughters. Considering how long people lived, and not knowing the ages that Cain and Able were when Able was murdered, there could have been a couple of generations alive at the time.

There were only two other humans alive at that time, and he knew that there would be more in the future.
In the beginning, people lived to be over 900 years old (if they were not killed), and Cain did not know how long he was going to live.
Also we only knew of Adam, Eve and Cain by name at that time, but we do not know of how many sisters Cain had at that time (he married one of them), so he may have feared them also.

The bible isn't meant to be read like a book. Not everything is explained in literal terms.
Seeing as you are christian, I think it's safe to assume you believe in an afterlife. Most likely, Cain was talking about his own afterlife. Everyone who's found what he had done would certianly punish him to some degree. After all, this was the first murder commited. (Isn't that sad.. The first death was experienced in one of the worst possible ways..)
I could go on for days analyzing scripture, but my mind is tired, and my fingers are refusing to hit the right buttons. So, maybe another day.
I hope this helps, though.

Not necessarily is that the case, we don't know how many daughters Adam and Eve had Gen. 4:17. Tells us he had relations with his wife......ergo meaning his sister. So we don't know what his homelife was like or if there was a sister who just might have loved Able enough to do physical harm upon Cain. Either way, I like your thought provoking question.

*** w77 12/a million pp. 707-708 Cain and His spouse *** ALL Bible readers are familiar with the actual incontrovertible truth that Cain replaced into the first guy to be born in the international. He replaced into the firstborn son of Adam and Eve, whom God had created quickly.—Gen. 4:a million. God informed Eve, notwithstanding, that she might want to convey about children.—Gen. 3:16. Abel replaced into the 2d boy born. (Gen. 4:2) The Scriptures are very short and condensed in this early account, yet they provide all that we opt to carry close. (Gen. 4:3, 4) We be conscious also that once Seth, the third named son, replaced into born, his mom Eve seen him rather for Abel. (Gen. 4:25) Adam replaced into one hundred thirty years old on the time of Seth’s start. this suggests that there might want to correctly were countless different children of Adam by technique of that element, consisting of daughters. The Bible’s silence as to the names of Adam’s daughters promises no project, because the start of daughters replaced into hardly ever pronounced and they were in difficulty-free words now and again named in the genealogical lists. notwithstanding the Bible does somewhat let us know, in its precis of Adam’s life, that “he grew to change into father to little kids.”—Gen. 5:4, 5. there have been no different races of humankind—no kinfolk of human beings predating guy, or having a separate foundation, as some have conjectured in attempting to respond to the question about the inspiration of Cain’s spouse. The statement of Adam and the call Eve itself forestall this. For the Bible says: “After this [after God’s passing of sentence] Adam called his spouse’s call Eve [meaning “residing”], because she had to change into the mum of anybody residing.”—Gen. 3:20. The inevitable end is, then, that Cain married one in each and every of his sister
