Talk to her, but don't introduce yourself. Pick something that will generate a conversation, but that doesn't put her on the spot or make you seem too interested. Always act like you could walk away from her in mid-sentence. When she asks you for your name, change gears and tell her an interesting story about yourself that makes you look good without sounding like bragging. Also, talk with all the people she is with--if you try to go up to her and cut out her friends, they'll cut you out! And take any opportunity to make her laugh--if the joke is at her expense, that's great as long as it isn't too mean.

If poss strike up conversation at the bar or becuase you're standing near to her or passing rather than making a bee-line, try to avoid making a straight introduction (as in 'hi I'm Pete') as that's always awkward, try to make her laugh, talk to her friends as well if their around. For me, if it's a normal 'having a chat situation' rather than an 'I'm chatting you up' situation it's a lot easier to work out whether I'm actually interested in the guy who's talking to me!

First of all drop all the stupid pick up lines. Just be honest...say hey I think your cute etc. may I join you? .....can I buy you a drink?....etc. Next.. be well groomed and have fresh breath (very important), and cool it with the fragrances....guys lighten up...we don't want to taste your fragrance every time we breathe in. And remember what your momma said "where's your manners"!
