Dog meat is not a delicacy, but rather one of the regular foods here. Usually it is cooked in a stew and I find that it is a little difficult to digest. These dogs are raised as a food animal...not as a pet.I was raised in Hong Kong and we have a saying that people from GuangDong Province eat anything with its back to the sun. So we eat many things that seem strange to you, here in Zhanjiang, GuangDong Province, we eat jellyfish, sea worms, cat, snakes and many wild animals and prepare various wines and whiskeys with seal and deer penis, and also consume turtles, sharks, octopus, squid, eels, mantis shrimp, and so forth. I have eaten elephant, monkey, swan, peafowl, emu, yak, camel and many other animals. We often have steamed pig's blood. My friends here know I am not squeamish about foods and don't order these dishes as a joke, it is simply another kind of food for us to enjoy but I do hate pigeon heads, and my friends know that and always take the heads themselves. Once a year we have a food festival and they have barbequed seahorses, centipedes, silkworm caterpillars, tarantulas, scorpions various other beetles, grasshoppers and even starfish, small sparrow-like birds, and splendid beggar chicken (chicken coated in clay and baked). I guess you could say a matter of taste. It is a pity that I can't attach photos or I would show you some of the foods of China...People of North China do not eat dog. One day in Hong Kong, I was in a small supermarket and two Hakka (one of the ethnic groups of China) women were having a discussion about a can of ALPO dog food, and one woman asked the other if the canned dog meat was as good as fresh dog meat. Since the can had a picture of a dog on the label, she assumed it was canned dog meat. Many of the food habits of Africa, the Philippines (I hate Balut...a 20 day old chick embryo that is hard boiled and eaten from the shell), China and other countries comes from the famines where people ate anything just to stay alive. Many British prisoners of war ate rats in Japanese POW camps and enjoyed them. America has been lucky with a fairly consistent food supply but all countries have not been so lucky. In Africa, people are starving because they don't even have the same options as other nations.

For the record, Chinese people eat anything and everything - from dog's meat, to monkey's brains, to kittens and finally to baby foetuses. I'm not kidding. Go do some research on the Chinese people. They're barbaric people, a species which needs to be wiped out.
