it makes me sick to read this as well..... why in the hell did you not just try to give it away to a loving home?

Keep it to yourself. There's no reason to make a big fuss.
Guinee pigs are not people, you are the official head of the family, and you have the right to dispose of such "property".
I'm not even sure if what you did was a sin.
While it was expedient, you certainly could have done something else with it, but what you did is not much worse than swatting a fly or stepping on an ant.
Just put it behind you, and let it be a reminder that we can do nasty things some time.

The only way you may be able to deal with your guilt is to confess and take the punishment. Yes, you are sorry for what you did but there are HUGE underlying issues as to why you did something like this in the first place. You need psychiatric help. The reason I am telling you this is that most sociopaths begin by doing things to animals. If I was your wife, frankly, I'd be afraid to be around you and have my children around you. Confess, take the punishment and go into therapy NOW!

It was indeed awful. But now the only thing I guess is possible is to deal with the guilt as an adult and prevent yourself from doing such stupid and harmful things in the future.
Nothing can be done now, and probably you can't tell your family about it. So falling harder into this guilty feeling is no use. Just try to get over it and ask yourself if you really are the person you think you are.

It was a terrible thing to do but you realize it was a huge mistake and that's what matters. It was a cruel thing to do, but in the grand scheme there are many, many worse offenses fathers and husbands do to their family.
Whether you tell the family is a personal thing, if you think it will cleanse your guilt, tell them and deal with the consequences. If not then stay quiet.
DO NOT just tell your wife, she will hold that info over your head forever.
You made a mistake and you're sorry about it, living with the guilt is punishment enough.
Do something nice with your family.

It's probebly not smart to let your kids know. That might make them think kind of bad about you. As for your wife, If I heard you say that you just wrote in your question, I would be willing to forgive. You obvesoutly have been plagued with guilt for a waile, and that's punishment in itself. It's your choice when to end it.
Realistically though, everyone messes up, real real bad sometimes. It's tough. People should think less of themselves and others (not in a negetive way) to avoid further disapointment.
If you feel spiritual guilty with God, when tell him that. Confess your sins to God. By doing this, your sins are paid for by the blood of Jesus, and forgotten. It's pretty sweet.

Just make sure you never do it again.
The damage is done now and can't be undone... but there is no point fretting over it. Just make sure you LEARN from it. Do not poison any more little animals with rat poison... its cruel and unpleasant. You have seen this for yourself and know it to be true.
That guinea-pig sacrificed its life for you to learn a lesson, so you had better not let it be in vain.
Its that simple.
Really.

Quit beating yourself up and learn a lesson from your mistake...
In the future you may want to teach your family that pets are a big responsibility and need love and care just like people.
I think you just had a knee jerk reaction to the turmoil the guinea pig was causing....
peace

You seem like a good person that just made a bad decision. I think praying about it will help. And expect it to take some time for the feelings to soften. I suspect you'll always feel bad about it, but just file it under "lesson learned".
I believe you do feel sorry for that.

You really have done what you are not used to. Your problem here is self love, my dear, the animal is dead and that's all. You wanted your peace so much that you didnt give heed to your personal profundity. There is not sin in killing and animal, but no good man is happy when his pet is dead and it is normal to suck you more since you killed it yourself...dont worry be happy

You've had the willingness to admit it here knowing the inevitable response-admitting it is the biggest hurdle. What's done is done, terrible though it was-don't persecute yourself but come to terms with it and make sure you learn the proper lessons.
