I don't see Islam as a threat.

I see Islamic EXTREMISTS as a threat - but they are a very small minority of what is generally a peaceful and respectful religion.

I am in the UK, by the way.

Tragic events of 9/11 made many people think that Islam is bad, and also a great threat to Western society. Unfortunately many have heard about Islam for the first time during these events. Modern migration of people, mostly cause of economical reasons resulted that many European countries that were predominately Christian, (either protestant or catholic majority) ended up with many Islam believers that came form Africa or Asia, and in this situation, many had started to fear that Islam will take over and other issue is the fact that many Muslims wont change their customs and adapt their behavior to the custom behavior of the country they reside. West doesn't know that much about Islam and it;s known fact that people fear what they can't understand.

No, I don't see Islam as a threat. I see people who are prepared to bomb other people as a threat. It's a threat to our society.
There's a lot about Islam I don't personally like. Female circumcision, the way women and girls are treated (not in this country but in the more fundamental Islamic countries) and the way they sneer at Westerners. I also don't like the way Muslims support each other, just because they're Muslims. Doesn't matter if they're right or wrong. And the way they dwell on the past.
This also doesn't mean I approve of everything the West does - but I think we're not as blinkered as Islamic countries are. Each to their own. As long as we're left alone, I'm fine with whatever you want to do.

Yes the west and western people see Islam as backwards and a threat. They are afraid that if Islam were to spread to USA and take over than the muslims would make all the women wear veils in public and women would be treated like dogs and are afraid that they would all have to revert to Islam or be killed. Which isn't true. Westerners think that Islam is a threat to their way of life as they know it and that if Islam ruled the west we'd be in the dark ages all over again.

I agree and disagree with the people who have answer so far. The immediate threat is not only the islamic extremists who support and promote the "convert them or kill them" mentality, but also the rest of the islamic people because there are not enough speaking up against these extremists.

If Islam is a religion of peace as it claims, then we love it.

My question is why does islam breed so many extremists who practise violence and destruction. Buddhism or Hindusim have no traces of violence. Christianity has traces of it.

Is violence promoted in Islam. I would hate to see the word losing one major and religion and its culture, but please take a look at the following website and articles written by muslims. It is kind of shocking and a disappointing case for Islam.

Islam was glorified by the Sufis and Fakirs. You need more of these to straighten the religion out.

Yes, we see the extremists as a threat (not Islam itself). Christian extremists have done exactly the same thing over their 2000 years of existence, but have moved past that stage... for the moment at least. I fear the Christian extremists will rise again to combat the Islamic extremists.

I'm an American Jew.

Yes, Stranger, we westerners do regard islam as a threat due to the acts of terrorism perpetred of late by some misguided Muslim Extremists. It seems thet they are not capable of peaceful coexistence with Non Muslims.Unless the more balanced among them convince the humungous damage these jehadis are doing to themselves, things wont improve, so sad 1

We need a threat to help keep us in line, in the "threat vacuum" left by the "reds", Islam is the most easy to put in that place.
I don't think there WAS a threat, but there will increasingly be one as the West continues to demonise Islam, and treat it's adherents accordingly.
So the threat is they will react to being provoked.

I certainly do. I base that as much from reading what is on their websites as anything. They think we are decadent and immoral and they believe that their religion teaches them that they need to convert us or kill us. It seems to me that it really has little do with our military actions in spite of the propaganda.

I don't feel that it is all Islam, but a significant portion. And the other big thing I find worrysome is the total lack of condemnation from the rest. I have only heard only one muslim speak against the violence that is started in the name of the religion without making excuses for it.
