You have to remember that there is no one mold for the perfect Muslim. All Muslims believe that their scripture is the one constant variable in their religion but not all Muslims interpret it the same. And, naturally, they interpret it within the context of their environment.
Oddly enough, this means that if the environment changes, so does the interpretation. So, their customs and actions change in accordance with their environment. That is why for some, Israel is the enemy, for others it is USA, or Afghan gov't or Iraqi policemen, etc, etc.
Finally, since it is stated very clearly in Muslim scripture that one day the entire world will be converted to Islam, they view their religion as superior and ultimately, the only truth. Therefore, it is offensive for Christians to openly show their faith in Jesus as Son of God but not offensive for them to wear their garb openly in other cultures. In their minds, they are carrying the Muslim flag into territory soon to be claimed by Allah and that, somehow, being in the right, God will protect them and exhonerate them.
Wearing a cross into Muslim territory sends an opposing message that they find offensive. If anyone is going to advance their religion and win complete victory, it must be Muslims. All others will be cut down, or so the story goes.
I wouldn't let that offend you too much, many Christians have the same attitude. Every one is right in their own eyes. How can they be? To be wrong about who god is, that is the most unforgivable sin. It's clear, God gave us a book, or two. Just read it, right?
But don't look at creation for answers, it's all a pack of lies. Dinosaur bones dating back millions of years ago. That was put their by Satan, right? Read the book, listen to me, you'll be good to go. Oh, and by the way, dress like this even among unbelievers regardless of the threat, ok? You are right, they are wrong. Eternity is ours. God is Great.

Because the Western countries say that they have freedom of religion and freedom of speech. Saudi Arabia and Pakistan do not have that and it is no secret when you go there that this is what is required. If you do not want to, you are not required to go there. If a country says that it has freedom then it must grant it to all equally. I am sure that if the USA or the U.K. said when you come to our country you must wear shorts and halter tops we would not go there. Also you are picking the extreme examples, in Egypt, Dubai, Bahrain there are women from all over the world wearing whatever they like, they may get stared at in some of the more rural areas of Egypt, but they are not prohibited from dressing as they like. There are many beaches where you can wear bikinis and there are even many private beaches in Saudi Arabia that permit foreigners to wear bikinis. Since there is no tourism in Saudi Arabia and foreigners are either there to work, to visit relatives who are working there or are there for religious pilgrimage it isn't that big of a problem.

I fail to understand why a Muslim woman's garb would offend anyone.
In western cultures, there is certain cultural imperative which dictates what a woman can where with regards to clothing. For Instance, a woman can go topless in some countries, but not in others.
In some Muslim countries, the dress code is a bit more extensive.
But as long as you meet that minimum, you are OK. If you where more than is necessary, there is no actual problem, just don't where less.
If a woman from another country decided to sunbathe topless, she would cause a problem. It may be legal in her country, but doesn't wash in others
A Muslim woman's burqua (sp?) would be considered a bit over-the-top in a christian nation, but not unacceptable, since it meets the minimum standards. A standard dress or pants suit on a woman in a Muslim country would not meet the minimum standard and would cause a problem

The Muslim community / culture is a few hundred years behind the rest of the world. The Christian culture back in the Middle Ages was the same way, now it has become more moderate as a whole. If you were living in a Christian nation back in the 1500's, you'd better be following their faith or you could end up being burned, stabbed, beheaded, etc. Eventually it became moderate.
It may take a few hundred years, but Islam will do the same thing.

Muslims are offensive wherever they go.
Their culture is such, they care less about others beliefs.
Others are far more tolerant of Islamic beliefs.
It's the allowances that others make towards Islamics is treated as weakness by the Islamics. The tolerance is read as Islam being better. In fact it is cruel, violent, hateful, backward etc. etc.
Muslim garb should be banned in public, the same as Muslim garb is enforced on foreigners in Islamic countries. It is only fair.

Who said that Christians can't wear cross openly? If anyone is going to tell me I can't wear it, I will tell them to go screw themselves. This is a free country! What we need to figuring out is why do Muslim people, and not all, think that its ok to kill innocent people just because they don't believe in the same religion. I was born and raised in one of the Muslim countries, and I am so thankful to my parents for bringing me to US, even though people where I grew up were kind and sweet, its not safe there anymore, and people like myself who aren't Muslim can get hurt.

As a Muslim I respect non Muslims as much as any Muslim. I've been to both Saudi and Pakistan and it's certainly not mandatory for a non-Muslim woman to cover their heads. How can it be when so many Muslim women themself choose not to cover their heads! If someone wears a cross thats fine by me. Good luck to them. I in fact revere Jesus just as much if not more than any Christian. We don't expect different treatment just to be treated as everyone else.

A question for intelligent people?
what would you do if a group of forigners attack your country, take it over, destroy your house, rape you, kill your parents, abuse your children, insult your beliefs and call you a terrorist for protecting yourself in your own homeland as well?will you sit on your hands and do nothing?and watch them stealling your oil and gold? If you try to get rid of them and you blow one of them up does it mean you're a terrorist or your religion is the religion of war and is full of violence? If so why they were not any before they attack you?what else would you do if you were in such a terrible situation?
I THINK PEOPLE NEED TO REDIFINE TERRORISM AND VIOLENCE.
plus
In Iran girls are wearing jeans and short mantos that are very fashionable with pretty thin coulerful scarves that let their hair fly out (I don't like that way of wearing scarves they should respect Islam).and they put on too much make up.How beautiful they are. what niqab?which country are you talking about?they are much more beautiful than American models and their beauty is natural.some tend to wear black because it's more formal than for example pink!In Iran some girls wear evey colur such as pink, purple, light green, yellow, orange but black is heavier than all of them.I like black colour too.

I take your point but I think you have a few crossed wires along the way. Consistency and reason should prevail in these arguments. Personally I think if they want to look ridiculous and give fuel to comment it is their problem.
If they want to be taken seriously by other cultures in which they live they should think about what they are doing and how it affects others, not only think about their own wishes to express their desires. Alternatively they should put up with it and stop winjing, In this country we are almost in control of our own destiny so they only have themselves to blame for the things they do not like in life.

When in another country, you are expected to follow their laws. In our country, we don't have religious freedom, so we are all free to wear crosses, stars of david, muslim garb, nazi symbols, etc. So, they are justified in wearing anyting they wish when in the US. However, in Pakistan and some other Muslim countries, there are religious bans. I certainly don't like it, but if I were to visit, I would adhere to them. That's why I don't plan on visiting!
