They are cubes that normally contained dryed matter depending on the type,Fish, Beef, Veg etc. So it is dryed then crushed and herbs and spices, flavorings, MSG are added.

I'm not a huge cook but I know the answer... kind of. They are concentrated beef and chicken (at a loss for a word here) anyway, you use them to enhance flavor in soup, stews and other various dishes.
