I had it done over 7 years ago...initially i lost weight because you cant eat the amounts as before...then it slowed down. I had an ultrasound 8 months after going through hell and they said the band had slipped off!!! from adhesion's formation, I have alot of discomfort when i eat, i still get hungry and as an over eater you sometimes dish up way to much but CANNOT let food go to waste!!! And when i lay down i feel it pulling inside me!! I have a knot like 'lump' on my tummy. I ended up with gall stones from rapid weight loss and had to have that removed as well. I have a huge scar as well and am still over weight. For me thinking back i wouldn't do it now for anything....I would have opted for the gastric bypass...i didn't back then thinking it was more server ....its the one that the famous singer had done Kylie Wilson?? i think that's her name? she lost all her weight about 300 pounds it looked like and kept it off and she looks great even after having a baby. She did have 'dumpingsyndrome" for a while and i think she might still have that...when you eat a meal to rich in fats of carbs your body tells you about it!!!
I have started reading Dr Phil's book and its very motivating especially after seeing his shows on the weight loss challenge.
I wish you the best in what you choose...but that's my personal experience.

It works by restricting the amount of food which can enter the stomach. It takes longer to eat and the stomach gets smaller over time from not being so filled all the time.
It works, but there are better ways. Gastric band should not be a first option treatment choice!

As already mentioned there can be some dangerous complications with this procedure.
A friend of one of my staff members recently had this done and she was in a life threatening situation for a while.
Her advice now is to avoid it, however there are people who have found it successful.
There are alternatives that won't risk your life and these should all be considered first.
It is far better to be over weight and alive.

Try www.bmiweightloss.co.uk - it gives guidance on the procedure, eligibility and aftercare. There's a telephone number you can call too for advice and information.
It works by reducing the size of your stomach, a bit like a belt so that you fill full after small amounts of food. This site and others tend to suggest that on average you lose 50% of your excess weight via this method.

Hi Mrs Star!
This works by controlling your stomach from comfortably expanding, thus making it hard for you to eat too much at one sitting.
I believe similar results could be attained by wearing tight pants with a tight belt. Other weight loss strategies are better, in my opinion.
I believe this answers your question, but if not, you may email me.
Good luck on your diet and fitness goals!

It does work, it is like an elastic band which is placed around the stomach to restrict it's capacity and function, hence you cannot eat as much as you once did. It is major surgery and highly risky and only available to those who are morbidly obese, which is different to clinically obese.
To be obese or clinically obese you have to be in excess of your ideal weight and body mass index (BMI). To be morbidly obese you have to be twice or more than twice your ideal weight and BMI, as the words imply, morbidly obese people are in danger of early or imminent death.

Weight loss surgery-like gastric bypass /lap band surgery / stomach stapling and gastrectomy have become very common and very safe now. My cousin got her Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery in India. She has lost more than 65 lbs in 5 months and is very happy with the results. The price for obesity surgery is very less in India. My cousin just paid 25% of the cost she was quoted in America. She got her surgery from a company called Forerunners Healthcare.
Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines. I have read a lot of their patient stories also. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as bariatric surgery and weight loss surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that your Obesity surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.
