I am allergic to my cat and it is OK to live with him. It is true that you build up a certain level of immunity to that particular animal, but the allergy is never completely gone.
What he needs to do is go see an allergist. Taking over the counter prescription medication such as Claritin will not completely work and he may build an immunity to that too. The allergist will probably get him on some allergy shots or prescribe prescription allergy meds like allegra or Zyrtec. My body only responds to zyrtec so I am good as long as I take that.
Vacuming just before he comes over is not a good idea either since vacuming stirs up a lot of dust and allergens into the air. Try vacuming about a day before he comes over so things have a chance to settle again. Make sure you don't use carpet deodorizers either since they often set people's allergies off. Hope this helps!

Your boyfriend will need to be on constant allergy medication, he has to want the cat as much as you and the cat box needs to be neat as a pin. My husband is allergic and we didn't notice until after we gave the cat away that our daughter was allergic, too. Good luck!

get a vaccuum with a HEPA filter, it really helps. Vaccuum daily. I am also allergic to cats but over time I have built up a tolerance to them. At first it was quite miserable. Your boyfiend should wash his hands every time he touches the cat or where the cat sleeps, this will help cut down on his allergic reaction, too.

My silly boyfriend has allergies too, but we have a kitten. I told him that it makes me happy to have one, so he is okay with it, plus he LOVES the cat.
He takes claritin for his allergies when they start bothering him, if it gets too bad then he just moves away from the cat.
Also, the more time your boyfriend spends with the kitty the less his allergies will bother him. As long as you keep the cat well groomed and the boyfriend well medicated.

Depending on the severity of the allergies... they may not be able to. If the allergy is treatable... and the boyfriend is willing... rounds of allery shots may help.
So who do you love more... the cat or the boyfriend? LOL!

1) boyfreind has to take anti-allergens
2) boyfreind has to go and you find new boyfreind who is not allergic to your cat
Kicking the cat out is NOT an option becuase whn yo took your cat to care for it, you made a commitment to that cat.

Have your boyfriend take Benadryl before coming over and vaccuum before he arrives. When he's there, keep a box of tissues handy!
