Interesting all the talk about Muslim women wearing veils. What does your Christian God say about veils?
What about the sack cloth and ashes and the Greeks in mourning in black with headscarves?

I know that in orthodox Judaism, women and men must keep their heads covered at all times with yarmulkes, hats, veils or wigs...

Oh dear me, not another Muslim v Christian question. There are very few Christians who wear anything other than normal clothes and don't feel the need to hide behind a veil. Women do cover their head when entering church and as for priests and nuns it is their work uniform[a job they are devoted to 24/7].
It is a mark of RESPECT that certain Christians wear black after the death of a loved one. I think that everyone should RESPECT other peoples religious beliefs, although for security purposes and good manners a veil should not be worn.
Why do some Muslim women wear the veil and some not?
Does it say more about Muslim men and their attitude towards women than the actual religious meaning?
The Hindus must be feeling very left out of all this anti-Christian and anti- Muslim garbage going down here, I have no religious beliefs, there is no GOD!!!!!

When I was a chiuld growing up in a catholic country, older women wore veils when going to Masses. so it isn't just Muslim women wearing veils.

you said it, sackcloth and ashes, headscarves... different ways of repentance/humility.

Christian and Muslim... two different religious views.

I think all the hoopla about Muslim veils is that in the West people think that Muslim women are forced to wear them, as a measure of taking away some of their power. Whereas in christianity, it's up to the woman to decide.

I doubt it very much if the Christain God had anything to say about Muslim veils.

Remember that Islam came after Christianity, and as such it didn't exist at the time of Jesus, until 600 odd years later, when Mohammed (PBUH) received the teachings of Islam.

the whole problem of religious dress of any religion is that in the bible or the qoran or any holy book, any passages mentioning it were written by people, and are not the direct word of any god. for example it dosen't state in the bible that it is a mortal sin to commit suicide, however the catholic church preaches it because in the middle ages the suicide rate was so high they began to make it doctrine. i'm sure any god would be more interested in the faith of his followers, not what clothes they are wearing. the whole debate is ludicrous. people are saying they feel threatened by muslim women walking around covered up on the streets. i'm much more worried about the gangs of teenagers in my area drunk or on drugs carrying knives. let people wear what they want!

Nuns to do not cover their entire faces with only their eyes showing. Nor do priests. A headscarf is quite different from a veil which covers your entire face. It is a security issue not a religious one. Headscarfs are perfectly acceptable as long as the womans face is visible.

Bible does not talk about veils. And God is one, for Christians and Muslims alike.

Here's what our New Testament says:

Paul writes: I know, and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean of itself; except to him who reckons anything to be unclean, to that man it is unclean. For if on account of meat thy brother is grieved, thou walkest no longer according to love. Destroy not him with thy meat for whom Christ has died. Let not then your good be evil spoken of

If the language is difficult for you to read, let me put it in a more modern way; we as Christians know that it isn't necessary to wear a veil or headpiece, but to a Muslim woman, it may be, and if it is necessary to her religion, then let her practice it in peace. If we force her to not wear a veil, it would be unloving and destroy any chance of showing Christ's love for her through us. Let not your good be spoken evil of is pretty self explanatory lol.
